Saturday Open Thread // THE PICKS

Feel free to mock my ignorance in real time.

No. 1 LSU vs. No. 9 Florida
This is supposed to be a close game; I don't think it will be. Florida has now been exposed for two weeks in a row, and the Bayou Bengals have plenty of suggestions on how to shut down the Gators. LSU 34, Florida 13

No. 2 Other USC vs. Stanford
Pete Carroll is about to show Jim Harbaugh why he better hope the Trojans coach is headed for the pros. Southern Cal 62, Stanford 10

No. 4 Ohio State at No. 21 Purdue
An intriguing game that should show us whether Ohio State is as good as we think they are and whether Purdue is good or just good against bad teams. It won't be that decisive. Ohio State 24, Purdue 20

No. 24 South Florida at Florida Atlantic
Embarrassing. Just embarrassing. USF 45, Florida Atlantic 0

No. 6 Boston College vs. Bowling Green State
See above. BC 56, BGSU 10

No. 7 Wisconsin at Illinois
I know Badger fans who think this game will turn out badly. The Illini are the surprise team of the year, and Wisconsin's string of close but ugly wins ends today. Note: This words were written before the first Illinois TD. Illinois 21, Wisconsin 20

No. 11 Oklahoma at No. 19 Texas
Oklahoma was vastly overrated before last Saturday, but a last-second win isn't as bad as a 20-point clobbering. The only question is whether Texas performs well enough to remain ranked. I think they will -- barely. Oklahoma 30, Texas 23

No. 13 Georgia at Tennessee
I'll be pulling for the Vols to wax the spelling-challenged Dawgs and give me a reason to drop them. But you don't go between the hedges, drop 50 on Georgia and win the next year. Well, unless you're coached by Steve Spurrier. Georgia 35, Tennessee 17

Revenge? Nah, they didn't really get none.

No. 14 West Virginia at Syracuse
I tempted to go with the Orange, but the Mountaineers are angry and better. That tends to equal a win. West Virginia 48, Syracuse 24

No. 15 Missouri vs. Nebraska
The Tigers always seem to fold when they're close to glory, and Nebraska wants to earn back a bit of respect. But I'm skeptical of whether they can do that. Missouri 41, Nebraska 31

No. 16 Arizona State at Washington State
It seems to me that the Cougars were a trendy pick to be a surprise team in the Pac-10. Maybe my memory is faulty. But if those people existed, they're wrong. ASU 56, Washington State 13

No. 17 Cincinnati at No. 23 Rutgers
Revenge is on the Scarlet Knights' minds, and if they score early, this one gets ugly fast. They score early. Rutgers 42, Cincy 10

No. 18 Virginia Tech at No. 24 Clemson
My hear goes to the Hokies. My mind is divided. SpillerDavis is still frightening to opponents. But the defeat at the hands of Chan Gailey should be frightening to the Tigger faithful. It's enough to scare me away from an upset prediction. Virginia Tech 34, Clemson 21

No. 20 Hawaii vs. Utah State
This one starts late, but it will be over quickly. Hawaii 64, Utah State 0

No. 22 Kansas State vs. Kansas
How, exactly, does Kansas get ranked? Well, it'll be a brief stay for the Jayhawks. Kansas State 24, Kansas 13

No. 25 Florida State vs. N.C. State
Please get this match off my television. The Red River Shootout is on. FSU 24, N.C. Stat
