Emanuel Cook a Semifinalist for Jim Thorpe Award

Emanuel Cook is one of 13 finalists for the award for the best defensive back in the land. Good luck to Cook in his efforts to win this award--he's had a great year and deserves the attention. The Gamecocks played against another competitor for the award last week, Tennessee's Eric Berry.

No contest

Don’t let the garnet and black glasses fool you here. Cook is a fine safety, but Eric Berry is All-World. There are few safeties in the country, let alone the conference, that are better than him. No contest here.

I would vote for Berry too...

But apparently a lot of my readers are prejudiced towards Cook. And I think Cook is better than people give him credit for. He doesn’t miss tackles and makes good decisions in coverage. But I agree; he lacks the game-changing killer instinct that Berry possesses.

Go Cocks!
