Freddie Brown and Clark Gaston are transferring. Gaston is already planning on heading to Spartanburg to join the Wofford Terriers, while Brown has yet to choose a school. Good luck to both of these players as they try to find a spot where they can get more playing time than they got at USC.

Transfers.

Does it bother anyone else that players are being asked to transfer to free up scholarships? I’ve never heard of this before, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t common college football practice. Does anyone else have any thoughts on/ knowledge of this subject. It’s one thing if they’ve accumulated enough credits to graduate and won’t be playing much during their senior years (Tommy Beecher), but this Gaston kid is a redshirt sophomore with two more years of eligibility left. What’s up with that?

Was Gaston asked to tranfer?

Brown is leaving under circumstances like Beecher’s—he’s been here four years and doesn’t project to pick up any significant playing time next year, so he’s being asked to leave. As far as I know, Gaston is leaving completely of his own free will, probably because he thinks he’ll never make it at USC. I might be wrong, though.

As far as whether this is common practice, I don’t know. Maybe someone else can fill us in?

Looks like I was mistaken...

Gaston apparently quit the team mid way through the season and is leaving of his own accord.
