Kentucky at South Carolina Postgame: Topics for Discussion
First of all, I'd like to say great game to the 'Cats. Kentucky was much tougher than I expected. Randall Cobb, Derrick Locke, and that offensive line are all high quality. Fortunately for us, we made a few more key plays than the 'Cats did and that won us the game.
I'll have more to say tomorrow, but here are some quick thoughts for now.
1. Our defensive front was mandhandled in this game, and when they were in position they couldn't tackle. Were we just sleepwalking or should we expect 'Bama to run all over us next week?
2. Our offensive line was equally bad, at least in pass blocking. I thought they had improved, but today was a step back.
3. A lot of people are going to remember Stephen Garcia's two turnovers and a couple of underthrown deep balls. However, the numbers show a decent outing by Garcia. He was 16/23 with three TDs and he threw for over 10 yards per attempt. He also ran for an epic first down on the final drive. What do you make of his performance?
4. Needless to say, we need to get Alshon Jeffrey in the game more. Legendary performance by the true freshman today.
5. Kenny Miles is clearly our best running back. He may not have been the bluechip athlete Brian Maddox and Jarvis Giles were, but he has great vision, a nose for the hole, and breaks tackles. Great performance by him today.
6. Our offensive playcalling was a bit of a mystery to me. I thought we should have tried to establish the run earlier, but it seemed like we abandoned it during parts of the game.

a win is a win today in the sec
army beat an sec team. houston beat miss. state and arkansas beat a 5-0 auburn team. i also could see lsu pull the upset vs florida. with or without tebow, the line has gone up to 10 1/2 points for lsu.

Great Topics
1. Despite all the talk about Joker Phillips, it was the UK defense that I thought was a great unit … we were just a little better.
2. Bama’s blitz is going to be fearsome. I think we need to hope for another slow start for the Bama “O” … or hold them under 3 TDs by the 4th (like this Ole Miss-Bama game) and see if we can’t play stalking horse for the upset.
3. Alshon should be SEC Freshman of the week. Great performance!
4. I thought we rushed well. Their numbers will be obscured by UK’s lights-out running. Kenny’s best plays were on the final possession drive … awesome!
5. 3 passing TD’s … I’ll take it!

On a day when several conference favorites lost,
I’ll take a win any way we can get it.
The defense played their worst game of the year, we were -2 in turnovers and had another drive killed by that awful sack where Garcia ran backwards, and our guards looked horrible.
1. I am worried about Alabama steamrolling us. Hopefully they are a little off their game a bit. I also hope we handle a straight power game better than Kentucky’s shifty scatback.
2. We may have to roll the pocket all day in Tuscaloosa to give Garcia a chance to make any plays.
3. Garcia was up and down today. He made some nice throws, and the great conversion when everyone was scared to give the ball back to UK in the final moments.
I was ok with our playcalling. I think we moved the ball reasonably well all day, and I remember at least one drive wasted on running plays that picked up next to nothing. The playcalling on the drive that ended with Jeffrey’s 2nd (?) td was my favorite. I particularly liked the sequence where we ran a bunch screen, then flipped the formation and threw to Jeffrey isolated one on one for 20 or so on the next play.
We played poor on defense, and ragged on offense, but still came up with a win. It was closer than it probably should have been, but at least we got through it.

Congrats on a good win
That one f’n hurts.
Hartline out for the year according to WHAS……it may be Morgan Newton time.
First time I shot her, shot her in the side.
Hard to watch her suffer, but with the second shot she died...

Hated to see Hartline go down...
Especially considering how the refs bungled that play. I’d be cursing those refs if I were Hartline.
Good luck with your year. As I said on ASOB, I was impressed with your play and think you have a few more wins in you if you can figure out the QB situation. Your remaining opponents are no less beatable than were. I expect you’ll beat Vandy and MSU and at least one of Tennessee or Georgia. maybe both.
