ACC Announces New Post-Season Contract
Less than a week after losing their contract with the Gator Bowl to the SEC, the Atlantic Coast Conference has rebounded with a new postseason agreement of their own. Beginning in 2010, the loser of the ACC Championship Game will receive an automatic bid to the 1-AA Playoffs, with a promised seed "no lower than fifth."

Clemson may be the one that gets there...
The Atlantic Division has to be the worst in college football. Despite the Tigers crappy play, they’re absolutely still in the running. That’s nothing for us to worry about, though, as the winner of that division gets the reward of being routed by VA Tech, Miami, or maybe GA Tech.

The ACC should
realign its divisions geographically. This topsy-turviness results from Swofford & Co. creating divisions to match the football landscape of 1999, which of course are all skewed now in 2009 (except Clemson still has not won an ACC Championship since ’91 despite being a pre-season contender every year).
Frankly, the ACC was a better football conference (at least more interesting) before VaTech, Miami and BC joined. West Virginia would have been a better fit than B.C., but then no one asked me. Pity.
Oh well … at least they got the big-money ACC Championship game as a consolation for wrecking forty years of tradition and spoiling the down-home intimacy of their true marquis event – the ACC Hoo[s Tournament.
I am I right or what?

Good point...
The alignment really was a pathetic attempt to turn the conference into the Miami-FSU show.

What’s really absurd about that is the fact that Oklahoma and Texas are both in the Big 12 South, and that hasn’t ruined the Big 12 or the intensity of that rivalry.
If I could re-do the ACC alignment I would do so as follows:
ACC North: BC, Maryland, Virginia Tech, Virginia, Wake Forest, NC State
ACC South: UNC, Duke, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Florida State, Miami
All they basically have to do is split the 4 NC schools so that 2 are in each division. Doesn’t matter how you do it, I suppose, but I like the idea of putting Duke in the division that has Tech, FSU, and Miami instead of a more consistent performer like Wake or NCSU.
They should also try and play the ACC Title Game in Charlotte every year, as it’s basically the centerpoint of the conference, much as Atlanta is in the SEC.

Having a conference championship game in Jacksonville when a team from Boston is in your conference...
Is the height of absurdity.
