South Carolina at Alabama Gameday Open Thread

South Carolina Gamecocks at Alabama Crimson Tide, Oct 17, 2009 7:45 PM EDT

Time to take on the Tide under the bright lights of Bryant-Denny. Do we have anything for the heavily-favored Red Elephants? We'll soon see.

Comment on the game in the open thread. Also feel free to weigh in on WFU at Clemson, Georgia at Vandy, Arkansas at Florida, and anything else that catches your attention.

I think it's worth reminding everyone...

That this time last year, ‘Bama almost coughed up two home games to Kentucky and Ole Miss. They’re good, but they’re not invincible. If we come out playing our best, we can take it to the wire and see what happens.

LMAO!

In all seriousness, I can’t wait to see Clemson FAIL against WFU and Grobe today.

I can't believe

Wake is getting 7 points in that game. If one were so inclined, seems like a nice, reasonably speculative parlay would be Wake +7 and the UGa moneyline. I heard it would reward at 1.6:1. Not that I encourage nor endorse such activities. I just saw it on TV.

Good lord. If I were so inclined...

I’d take the Deacs straight up. What football season have the odds makers been paying attention to? If Clemson wins by +7 1/2, I’ll be pretty surprised.

Don't Be This Guy

Messing around on YouTube this morning and ran across this gem. Seriously, I hope there aren’t any Gamecock fans out there who make anything like this. I don’t care if we win 11 National Championships in a row, there’s no excuse for advertising how fat and unfunny you are.

by Snead on Oct 17, 2009 10:46 AM EDT reply actions   0 recs

Being from Alabama...

I can say this guy’s not really all that unique, except for the fact that he, as you point out, insists on advertising how ridiculous he is. ’Bama fans are a breed unto themselves. You have to give them credit for their passion for the Tide, though.

Go Cocks!

I’ll be watching them kick bama’s arse at 2am my time from Sweden on espn360. Even here i get sideways looks at my “COCKS” shirt. They don’t speak much english, just enough to realize the abnormality of such i imagine.

Maybe, just once, someone will call me "sir" without adding, "you're making a scene."

Anyone watching this? According to the gamecast, one of their safetys has two pass attempts. WTF?

Yeah. Nice looking game by the Tigers.

They’re consistently one of the strangest teams in the NCAA. They look like crap one week, only to look a national title contender the next.

I can see it now.

Well Verne, Arkansas wins 24-23.
That’s right, Gary. And Tebow looks absolutely magnanimous in defeat!
Yeah, Verne. I think the he’s handling this loss will win him the Heisman.

How much does ESPN/ABC hate CBS this season?

They must be getting incredible ratings for their SEC games this year. I was surprised they didn’t get Bama-USC but I wasn’t thinking about Bama-UT next week.

Great game

Maybe NOW the Florida defense will get some respect. Probably more gushing for Tebow though.

This is why we love the SEC boys.

And of course

Tracy Wolfson was visibly moist when asking Meyer about Tebow. God I can’t wait for this love fest to end. Whoops, I forgot, God’s on Tebow’s side.

That personal foul before the last UF score was criminal

There’s no defense for that. The SEC has the best football and the worst officiating.

lucky

to be down 13-6 at half in my view.

Crazy first half but we are close just need better offensive production and a bit more success stopping the run.

Need Gurley, Barnes and/or Saunders to step up as Alshon will have double coverage for the rest of the game.

Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

I’m back live now. This game is ridiculous. Garcia needs to lock it up!

The only thing I can say is that our defense has come ready to play. Plus, considering Garcia has played his worst game of the year to date, we’re lucky to only be down 7. If Garcia can figure out which end of the football is pointy and the defense continues at its current pace, we can win this thing.

20-6

we had a chance but just could not muster enough to get over the hump. Offensive strategy this game sucked as play calling at times was awkard. Defense as ususal did great but Garcia decided to have his worst game of the year.

PS – Ingram, thanks to Carolina, just inserted himself in the Heisman talk.

Where do we go from here?

The defense came to play. We won the turnover battle by two. Garcia has his worst performance of the year.

I don’t know how to feel after this game. The offense took a step back here. We had multiple opportunities to win this game, but let me be clear: the better team won tonight. My confidence in Garcia’s abilty to lead this team to anything significant is just as shaken as Garcia himself. This wasn’t just an off night for him. It was awful.

Sure we hung in with the #1 or #2 team in the nation, but our offense showed no signs of life.

OK, our team isn’t great. Beating Alabama was a long shot, but do we have enough to win 2 or 3 more games? I have no idea.
