re

STA is 5 for 5 on 3rd downs tonight, and 3rd and 8 is their shortest conversion.

KO return to 22

Lattimore up the gut for 7 on 1st, 1 on 2nd

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 9:03 PM EDT reply actions

Uh-oh

Lattimore picked up the 3rd on pass, then fumbled

Returned 41 yards for TD

QB is not very sharp right now

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 9:13 PM EDT reply actions

Finally

Byrnes gets a stop on 3rd and 17, though they still gave up 11

About to get the ball back trailing 21-7 with 4 min to go

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 9:20 PM EDT reply actions

Byrnes ball,

ML hit in backfield
2nd N Jones runs for 30

1st STA recovers and makes great play to save TD on play action
2nd Dodd throws on the run and misses WR
3rd DL free up the middle, Dodd dumps for 5
Short 26 yard punt with 2 min in half

Lattimore has 8 for 38, TD and the fumble on his catch

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 9:26 PM EDT reply actions

Bad way to end the half

After an unsuccessful hook and ladder for Byrnes,

STA player starts shoving match, but Nick Jones gets ejected when refs rule he throws a punch

Offsetting 15 yarders that aren’t really offsetting

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 9:35 PM EDT up reply actions

SO I was late getting back

now 21-14, 6:30 to go in the 3rd

Byrnes has the ball, Jazz King broke off a route and almost led to STA pick

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:09 PM EDT reply actions

bit of a momentum breaker

Lattimore gets about a 15-20 yard run, but fumbles again.

STA returns to around the Byrns 25

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:13 PM EDT reply actions

TD

11 yard fade for STA

28-14 STA, two TD’s off Lattimore fumbles, one returned directly, other returned for short field position

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:16 PM EDT up reply actions

3rd and 3

LM has about 140 total yards, 2 TD and the 2 fumbles

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:21 PM EDT up reply actions

THis is just horrible

toss sweep to Lattimore on 3rd and 5 from the 6, and he bobbles it, recovered by STA

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:23 PM EDT reply actions

Re

These have not been strong, helmet to ball hits forcing the fumbles.

On this one, he was untouched.

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:25 PM EDT up reply actions

total yards

Byrnes is +125 and down by 2 TD’s

STA now facing 3rd and 10+ inside their own 5

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:26 PM EDT reply actions

Punt from their 5

and the Byrnes PR does not field it. Dead at around the Byrnes 48. Rebels are far from sharp.

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:33 PM EDT up reply actions

Something going again

15 yard PI
19 yard ML run
5 yd offsides
1st and 5 from STA 15
7 yds
1st and G from 8

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:34 PM EDT reply actions

TD Rebels!

WR screen to Jazz King

He’s been the most impressive Byrnes WR, and 2nd best weapon behind ML. Given how close he is with Lattimore and Jones, curious to see if he can play his way into a Carolina offer.

28-21, KO to STA upcoming. Almost the entire 4th quarter to go.

Byrnes has moved at will and only stopped themselves with TO’s this half.

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:36 PM EDT up reply actions

And there goes the momentum again

Some people think you shouldn’t kick to the other team’s best athlete.

KO return for a TD.

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:39 PM EDT reply actions

Big hold on Byrnes

cancels a 24 yard gain after Dodd makes big throw on the run.

Now 2nd and 20 from the Byrnes side of 50

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:49 PM EDT reply actions

Headscratcher

run on 2nd and 25. now 3rd and 23

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

But never mind

they just hit a 59 yard TD on 3rd

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:50 PM EDT up reply actions

Short kick sets STA up at their 44

They go deep on 1st, and it’s almost picked off
2nd and 10

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:54 PM EDT reply actions

Lucky there

Nicely set up screen on 3rd and 6, and it was slightly underthrown.

Would have been a HUGE play, but forces a punt back to Byrnes with about 7 min to go

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 10:55 PM EDT reply actions

Missed opportunity,

but the play would have been cancelled by a hold

3rd and 26 and Dodd is sacked at the 10.

Punt upcoming on 4th and a mile, but helped somewhat when STA commits another personal foul to give 15 back. Punting still

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:03 PM EDT reply actions

Byrnes needs another D stop

4:45 to go.

STA takes over at their own 34

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:04 PM EDT reply actions

Bad start

16 yard gain up the middle to midfield on quick run

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:04 PM EDT up reply actions

Better there

Loss of 4

2nd and 14, clock under 4, Byrnes sitting on 3 ttime outs

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:05 PM EDT up reply actions

That could be the game

Got it to there RB in space when he split wide, he shakes the defender and picks up 20

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:06 PM EDT up reply actions

And another gash

16 yards to the 19. Byrnes should just let them score with 2:20 to go. They have a kicker that’s committed to TN, so they already are in range of a 2 score game

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:07 PM EDT reply actions

Byrnes is almost definitely the

best public school in the nation. STA has a fresh backup RB with a many high D-I offers, and his fresh legs are running out the clock.

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:08 PM EDT reply actions

That was nice

They threw the ball for the end one on 2nd and 14. Byrnes can now call a TO and hope for a blocked kick

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:10 PM EDT up reply actions

Or...

they can give up a passing TD on 3rd down

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:11 PM EDT up reply actions

IF this was a college game

It would end up on Doc’s Life on the Margins.

Some will say Byrnes fumbled away a victory, but STA just had more athletes. Byrnes made more small plays, but they couldn’t come up with the 3rd down stops.

by GwinnettGamecock on Oct 2, 2009 11:17 PM EDT reply actions

On the final play

Jazz King gets his 2nd TD on a 24 yarder.

Final score 42-34 STA.
