Georgia Fires Willie Martinez; SEC Fans Outside of Athens Mourn
Mark Richt bit the bullet and Willie Martinez and two of his staff are gone. Per The State:
The coach says the "difficult decisions" on the three assistants was necessary for the program.
Defense has been a problem for Georgia (7-5), which is awaiting a bowl bid following its 30-24 win over Georgia Tech in its final regular-season game. Georgia gave up more than 40 points in three games.
This is really a shame; I was hoping Richt and his famed loyalty would come through for us. I would have enjoyed seeing what we could do on a Williefense with Alshon involved and a generally greater ability to score touchdowns instead of field goals. Now I guess we'll have to deal with a coach that can actually get something out of the talent in Athens.

Woohoo!!!!
This is awesome news…. I was hoping he’d be fired 2 or 3 games in this year. This was needed for so many reasons…. one…. we were getting absolutely embarrassed on defense. Bad tackling, horrible scheming, poor discipline. We deserve so much better and we’ll get it….. Go Dawgs!!!
I have no doubt you'll get a much better coordinator...
You can only go up from here.

C'mon, man...

This is a sad day. But hey, with the power of positive thinking perhaps we can influence Richt into hiring someone else who will gladden the hearts of SEC offensive players and coaches. I’m thinking Tenuta – who’s with me? (Or maybe Amato – you have to think Jimbo’s going to clean house now that he’s in charge, and Chesty Chuck and Richt go way back.)
Amato!
Would be a great choice.

I hope Mrtinez had a
great relationship with the JR’s on the team.
I think Curran might go pro anyway. He has an infant daughter in Gwinnett, and he isn’t going to get any taller next year. That’s the only knock on him as an NFL prospect.
I’d love to see Jones (S) and maybe Boling (OT) jump too. I don’t know if Boling has a chance, but I think Jones might seriously consider it. It would be nice to see us escape an offseason intact and our rivals get hit. You know Berry is leaving UT, and Florida could lose seven or eight JR’s (Dunlap, Pouncey twins, Hernandez, Wright, Haden, maybe a couple more).

That's a good point, especially about Curran.
