Stephon Gilmore and Alshon Jeffery were named 1st team Freshman All-American by College Football News. Gilmore was the first DB listed, while Jeffery was just behind Eric Page of Toledo. Devin Taylor, an occasional starter at DE, made the Third Team defense, while T.J. Johnson was Honorable Mention for his work on the offensive line.

South Carolina was one of three schools to have multiple players named to the first team. The other schools were Oregon and 34-17.
