Recruiting Weekend a Success

Reports are that some of the big name recruits that were in town over the weekend had good visits and plan to sign with the Gamecocks. First of all, some sources have indicated that Marcus Lattimore has said that he plans to commit. Lattimore denies these reports, but you have to admit that his denials have the smell of Marcus just trying to have fun and wanting to wait until the day before signing day to make everything official. I'm fairly confident that Marcus will be a Gamecock in the end.

The Gamecocks also got good news from a couple of verbally committed players that were considering other schools. Eric Mack says he is done. Mack had been hotly pursued by Auburn and Florida, and he had indicated that his commitment wasn't firm. Now it is. Trammell Williams also firmed up his commitment over the weekend.

good to hear

I agree that Marcus will (and always was going to) sign the letter of intent to play at USC in 2010. He wants to create the buzz and actually by him going that route should create some signing day buzz for the gamecocks overall…which is always good.

The denials make it seem like he's just upset that the cat is out of the bag.

Like you say, he wants the buzz.

So much for Auburn being 100% for Mack and Lattimore, huh?

Hey now,

let’s not count our Gamecocks before they’re hatched.

I would be shocked if Lattimore doesn't come play for us.

I’m being completely honest. Everything points to him committing to us. Can’t wait to see him on the field next year.

Marcus Lattimore's mother on Steve Spurrier:
“Everything went well, we enjoyed ourselves,” she said. “It was a fun visit for the entire family. Everybody enjoyed themselves. Everyone (at USC) seems to be very supportive of him. That in itself is enough, to have that community support. I think the whole process that’s been going on with USC has been great. Coach Spurrier has really loosened up. I made the comment in the past where I felt he was unapproachable. He’s made a 360. I had this coach doing the cha-cha slide with no music. He was just great. He had his arms open wide every time he saw me. He speaks to me personally. He’s been so personable with us lately. He’s really changed as far as myself. He came over to the hotel and sat around with use and we had a really good time.”

Maybe you’re onto something, Gamecock Man.

Of course there is this as well:
Smith said she has no indication of a favorite for her son. “He’s agonizing over this,” she said. But Lattimore told AUTigers.com Sunday night that Auburn holds a slight lead on USC.

Yeah. Hard to know what to make of all of this with that coming out today.

On the one hand, you have his mom praising Spurrier, you have Marcus standing up in the crowd, pointing to his hat, and then pointing to himself at the basketball game, Kornblut’s supposed source. And now this. Maybe we should just wait until NSD.

Lattimore: Auburn has slight advantage over USC

http://www.goupstate.com/article/20100118/NEWS/100119723/1088/sports?Title=Lattimore-says-Auburn-has-slight-advantage-over-USC

Good news is Spurrier gets the final visit on 1/30, 2 days after Auburn. Lattimore will announce on 2/2/10.

Yeah, I think Spurrier getting that last visit is key.

Spurrier is a notoriously good closer.
