South Carolina National Signing Day Open Thread

This is an open thread to discuss national signing day. A few things to keep in mind:

  • Sean Tapley is possibly going to decommit and sign with the North Carolina Tarheels. I hope we can keep the speedy Tapley, but we probably should have seen this coming after we picked up Ace Sanders's commitment. Other than Tapley, it sounds like we're probably going to keep this class together.
  • Justin Parker is set to announce later today. Most signs seem to indicate Clemson at this point, but it's never over till it's over.
  • The rumor that we're going to get a surprise commit is still going strong. These rumors happen yearly, so take it with a grain of salt. This one seems to have picked up a good bit of steam, though, so it's worth keeping your hopes up for. Word is that it's a committed player from another SEC school who fills a need but is not a national name.

surprise

USC today offered and received a commitment from WR Javon Bell of Jacksonville, FL. Bell is a teammate of long time USC commitment Sean Tapley who has been considering switching to North Carolina.

Tapley is out; going to UNC...

Some say Bell is even better. I understand he’s going to have some work to do to qualify, though. Probably won’t see him in garnet and black for a year or two.

Bell can’t be the surprise everyone’s talking about, right?. We must have offered him because of the impending loss of Tapley.

Tapley:

“Each school had things I liked,” Tapley said. “In the end, I would says the education I would get is what stood out about North Carolina.”

Give me a break, kid. You flip-flopped because we signed Ace Sanders.

Logan Stewart, rumored to be the surprise...

has signed with Vandy this morning. That should be the end of that.

ESPN is projecting the Gamecocks 2010 class at 17th currently but this may change as the day goes on.

Would still love to see Parker sign with us

but I just don’t think it’s going to happen. Hope I’m wrong.

I think you're right...

But I’ll keep my fingers crossed until I hear the bad news. He would really catapult this class into “excellent” status.

IDK if you guys noticed...

But I think the surprise commit was AJ Cann. He is showing up on every site as a Signed LOI to South Carolina.

Cann has been a verbal commit to South Carolina for quite some time, no?

no

He had decommitted and went to Auburn, a couple weeks ago

Not to quibble,

but I believe you’re mistaken. Eric Mack was the OL who decommitted from USC and ended up signing with Auburn today. Cann has remained true to our beloved Gamecocks.
