Thursday News and Notes: Gamecocks Well-Represented in Phil Steele's Preseason All-SEC Team and More

I have a few bits of news today. If you're like me and can't go to the game, come back by tonight to chat about baseball in the open thread.

Gamecocks Dot Phil Steele's Preseason All-SEC Team - SOUTH CAROLINA GAMECOCKS. The Gamecocks had nine players recognized by Steele. Included on the first team were Stephon Gilmore and Cliff Matthews. Also surprisingly recognized was Marcus Lattimore, who made the third team.

What I take away from this is that the perception is out there that this will be one of our more talented teams in recent years.

Kiffin impact still felt in SEC | Joe Person on Football. Interesting quote:

The closest Dooley came to a verbal jab was an apparent reference to South Carolina defensive chief Ellis Johnson, who received a two-year extension and doubled his salary (to $700,000) after Dooley reportedly offered him the defensive coordinator’s post at UT. Dooley told the crowd how he wanted to find a coach who wanted to be in Knoxville, and "not because it was late in their career and it was a high-paying job."
