Gamecocks Beat Oklahoma with Flair for the Dramatic!: South Carolina's Exclamation Mark Supply Running Dangerously Low!

In a game that will no doubt turn out to be the signature win for the Gamecocks this year, South Carolina showed us all why sometimes it's OK to believe (sorry, Oklahoma fans). USC rallied from a 1 run deficit in the bottom of the 12th inning to win the game 3-2. Brady Thomas knocked in Jackie Bradley, Jr. from second with a base hit up the middle. One batter earlier, Jeffery Jones walked  in his only CWS appearance to date to advance Bradley to second.

Everyone in Gamecock Nation is feeling good right now, but you have to feel especially good for Ethan Carter. Carter gave up the home run to the only batter he faced to break the tie. Carter has had some moments of brilliance this year, so I hope he can put this behind him. He's sure to be a great Gamecock in the future, and we may even need him tomorrow. In fact, it's very likely.

Stats:

  • USC has left 27 runners on base in 30 innings at the college world series (29 if you count Jones and Thomas in the 12 inning of Thursday's game).
  • Ray Tanner is now 10-3 in elimination games at the CWS (H/T Leftover Hot Dog)
  • USC is undeafted against Clemson this year at nuetral site games.

Sorry I haven't been able to write more about USC's recent success, but I've been busy beginning a new job. You don't need me to tell you to ENJOY THIS WIN, anyhow. See y'all tomorrow night!

Go 'Cocks!

GO COCKS!

We’ve got to get better about leaving those runners stranded. This late in the season, we need to take advantage of every opportunity that comes our way.

Yep. Particularly as we'll be playing Clemson, who is hitting the ball well...

and because we’re low on pitchers. I’m hoping for a great performance out of our pitching staff tonight, but you have to think that we’re going to have to score several runs to win this one.

Clemsons hitting well

But if you look at the numbers we have done better in that category. they had 20 hits thru 2 games, while we had 23 hits thru 2, we have also had a much larger power margin over them… 5 HR’s against 0 for Clemson (not to mention only 1 of those 20 hits is an extra baser). The place that Clemson has the offensive advantage thus far, is RISP… if Carolina was just slightly more efficient to this point with RISP, we would be dominating every team to this point. I hope our guys can ride the confidence from last nights win and have another ASU-like game also.

Im sure I speak for majority of the Gamecock Nation when I say how proud I am of what they have already accomplished.

Absolutely...

but damn if I wouldn’t like two more ASU-like performances today and tomorrow.

To say

this was a great win would not do it justice. This was huge in every aspect for South Carolina.

Proud to be a gamecock. And let’s do it a few more times in Omaha.
