Spurrier disassociates with Ron Morris
Coach Spurrier has chosen to disassociate with State "writer" Ron Morris, due to the fabricated story he published about Spurrier's "recruitment" of Bruce Ellington. For those who didn't see, Spurrier came out for the weekly presser, paced off-mic in front of the table, and announced he had something to "get off his chest". He then went on about (paraphrasing here) a writer who writes bad things about the team. He said that's fine, but the fabricated story is not. Spurrier is now disassociating himself with Ron Morris. Of note: never mentioned Morris by name, but various sources including 107.5 are confirming it's him.
Odd that it's happening now, but maybe Spurrier had had enough. Must have been some kind of catalyst that came to light recently. More on this as it develops.

This might have been a bad move.
We all know what a piece of garbage Morris is (at least from a journalistic standpoint.) But I guarantee you that few outside the state know he is. They sure will now.

Can't blame him, but I hope it doesn't backfire on him in the media.
That said, Morris is such a hack that it might not. Some of the stuff he’s written lately is a joke. The State should be ashamed that they keep that kind of yellow journalism on the payroll.

Bumped. Just read about this on TBS. Props to Spurrier for telling Morris off.

Thanks.
Of course the problem here: Ron Morris is a figure unbeknownst to most sports fan. Spurrier is a figure known and loathed by most sports fans. This equates to Morris becoming a martyr in the media. He’ll get asked to come on Sportscenter and national talk radio and that sort of thing, and will likely spout a whole of of “woe is me” kinda stuff.
Part of me wishes Spurrier had just left it at the dressing down, but let him stay. That way, it becomes a story, Morris looks bad, but Spurrier doesn’t look quite so much like the crotchety neighbor.
But either way, it was worth it to see an incredulous Ron Morris wandering around on the press conference feed, on his phone and trying to make some sense out of what just happened.

Regardless of how the national media perceives it, you know just about every Gamecocks fan loved this.

@TravHaney
“Spurrier is overreacting. But, believe this, this is about deflecting attention/pressure from players before road trip. It’s what he does.”
Always a voice of reason.

I disagree with Travis here.
This is fairly serious and isn’t something you do to deflect.

I'm guessing it was more about deflecting attention away from the Garcia dismissal.
Although, I suppose that’s fairly obvious now.

Apparently, Steve was determined to make this a big news day.
Garcia just got the boot from the team.
And we were singing hymns and arias... Much louder than Cardiff because we're in the Premier League!
