Clemson at South Carolina Post-Game: Gamecocks Dominate Clemson, Win 34-13
Let's take a brief look at a few numbers.
TB: Kenny Miles, 71 yards; Andre Ellington, 66 yards
TE: Rory "Buster" Anderson, 57 yards; Dwayne Allen, 9 yards
South Carolina Defensive Line, five sacks and numerous hurries against Tajh "South Carolina has an average d-line" Boyd; Clemson Defensive Line, including Andre "Chicken Dance" Branch, two sacks and a night to remember of being schooled on the ground by our o-line, Shaw, and Miles
And my favorite...
QB: Connor Shaw, 14/20/0 210 yards, 108 rushing; Boyd, 11/29/1, -23 rushing
There's a lot more to be said about this game, needless to say. The analysis can wait for tomorrow, sure. Right now, though, suffice it to say two things. First of all, Clemson got put in its place tonight, and VT (a very hot team) will probably finish the job next week. They'll get a chance to prove me wrong then, but from what I can see, this is a team that caught lightening in a bottle for a couple of weeks mid-season, reverted to old form, and is on its way out on a nasty losing streak, capped off by a butt-kicking at the hands of its rival. Sound familiar? Glad it's you and not us these days, Clemmy. Enjoy another year of knowing we whipped you.
Second of all, we saved the best for last. Coaches, players on all sides and at nearly every position, fans...everyone gets an A. Damn good performance, gentlemen. It's been a weird season, but it's been a very good one--and this makes it that much sweeter.
Go 'Cocks!

Lest we forget this gem either ...
"This summer, Boyd decided to Tweet after South Carolina quarterbacks coach G.A. Mangus was arrested in Greenville for urinating in public. “Like coach, like QB, smh (shaking my head),” Boyd tweeted, referring to Gamecocks quarterback Steven Garcia’s five suspensions.
Whose shaking his head now, Tajh?

The shot of him on the sideline after the pick>Jeffery TD was simply priceless. Tajh got put in his place and looked like an amateur in contrast to Shaw.

I didn't see it!
Maybe we can get RJ to put it in a gif for us when he gets back from vacation.
And, heck yeah, Tajh got taken to the woodshed.
I also am savoring how Mark May, about a month ago, said Clemmy would roll all over us (after Lou had said USC’s defense would be Clemmy’s biggest challenge). Hope you like crow, Mr. May – we’ll serve it up nice and hot.

That guy did a pretty good job covering Jeffery. Maybe the one bright spot for Clemmy. Jeffery got the last laugh, though.

I also loved Justice Cunningham's block
on Shaw’s TD run … he took out three Clemmy defenders, thowing one into the two others, to spring Shaw. That might be the block of the game.

Yeah, was just watching that again. Great play by Cunningham.

My 2 Cents
I realized today that this is gonna be the last Carolina game I see while Down Under (exchange program from law school), as I come home in two weeks. But it’s been fun, and I think that I’ve encouraged at least a bit more interest in college football around here. (I think the sports transfer has been much greater the other way, as I’ve fallen in love with Aussie Rules Football. Cricket is still confusing as heck though.)
The Good
The Offense: Spurrier finally buckled down and ran the option for pretty much the entire game, which is where we’d gotten a lot of success against Florida and others this year. And it paid off. Carolina ran through Clemson’s line like tissue paper. Connor Shaw had a banner night; not only did he look quite confident in the backfield, he finally figured out when to scramble and when to throw it away (mostly). While it looked for a bit like we’d completely abandonded the pass (the second quarter was almost all running), Shaw still threw several good passes thrown into the mix. Running certainly seems to be both the main strength and main tool of our offense right now. The touchdowns to Rory Anderson and Alshon Jeffery in the second half were both great throws, as was the 55-yard bomb to Anderson shortly beforehand. When Shaw and has recievers finally sync up, either in the bowl game or next year, watch out.
There were problems on offense; the O-line still looked shaky at times (especially on that first sack of Garcia; two guys completely missed the blitzing defender). But the good far outweighed the bad tonight.
The Defense: What is there to say except “wow”? How soft is this D-line now, Boyd? Four sacks, and tons of pressure all night long. Clemson couldn’t seem to stick with a combination of short passes and short runs, which have been effective against our defense all year; they kept switching back to ineffective deep bombs, and a combination of great coverage and dropped balls negated most of those plays. Two of Clemson’s scores came with assists; the first was a drive resulting from an extremely questionable penalty while the second came from a botched punt, and it was nothing short of a miracle that the defense held Clemson to a FG after starting on Carolina’s 26. Well done.
The Bad
Special Teams. The second-quarter snafu which resulted in Clemson starting from their own 26 was just plain bad. Bad snap, bad attempt at fixing it by Scribner-Howard, and bad play after it got blocked. Andre Ellington also broke a 55-yard return on the special teams, and if he’d broken that last tackle it could have been much much worse. And while the fair catch snafu was not exactly Carolina’s fault, there were way too many players around Hopkins; no need for that when he’s signaling fair catch. Field goals were fine, but we have got to make some serious adjustments to the special teams next year.
The Ugly
The referees. Awful, awful, awful. The aforementioned fair catch snafu was one of the most blatantly wrong calls I’ve seen all year long. Hopkins was hit by a Clemson player, not a Carolina player. It was clearly from most every review angle, and should have been clear to the refs. The refs continued to ignore several holding and facemask penalties (including two three plays apart on Kenny Miles) while calling several penalties on the Gamecocks. The second half finally saw them take the blinders off and begin calling penalties on Clemson but it was not good.
The Upshot
But let’s not let these stupid refs ruin the mood. Carolina has 10 wins for the second time in school history. We defeated the entire SEC East this year and have defeated (and, in fact, dominated) Clemson three times in a row. We defeated Georgia, Florida, and Tennessee in back-to-back years. We have one of the best defenses in the country. We did all of this without Lattimore for half the season, without our senior quarterback for most of the season, and with a very shaky offensive line. This, in my opinion, is one of Steve Spurrier’s best coaching years ever, right up there with the 1995 & 1996 Gators.

Great post
I agree the offense had a banner night. Without whining or nit-picking, I do hate how anodyne and un-creative we get when we’re sitting on a lead. We had several three-and-outs in the third and fourth that were easy-to-spot interior runs. I’m not upset that Shaw slid/went down short of the marker a couple of times, but we were getting stopped on third-and-short a lot in the second half.
That blown call on the muffed punt was atrocious. The refs let Clemson back in the game. Even in a big victory there should be some sort of ramification for blowing it so badly. ACC refs are the pits – this sort of crap happens over and over when Clemmy comes to town with the numbskull, keystone-cop-like ACC officials. It’s got to stop.
In special teams, I’ve grown accustomed that Joey S-H is going to have one cringe-worthy punt, and one amazing punt. I was ecstatic to see the kicks from our kick-offs improve like night-and-day in the second half – coming down in the corners at or near the goal line – we haven’t had that all year. I haven’t been super-impressed with our KR or PR coverage units and schemes – that needs the most work.

Oh,Oh,Oh my!
Glorious that we put it all together against Clemmy. Let’s not forget how well the playcalling went…kudos to Coach! Clem didn’t have a clue what was coming next.
It was an excellent yardstick for comparing SEC to ACC, and a real measure of how far Gamecock football has come in three years.
In spite of Clemson’s tradition of self-destruction during either the first four games or the last four, we beat of pretty good football team.
great game
I think we’re going to like watching Anderson at TE the next few years. Clemson had 153 offensive yards…previous low this year was 323 against VT.
