The Daily Feed: December 16, 2011

Good morning Gamecock Fans! If you're reading this and you haven't moved your Elf on a Shelf, do it now! Make sure you keep reading after the break for Gamecock and Cornhusker football links, and other loose feed.

SEC Football

Orlando Sentinel Swamp Things Blog: Signs point to SEC football schedules coming out next week. According to the report, for at least 2012 everyone will keep their permanent cross-division rival, and will play an 8 game schedule with a full divisional round-robin - i.e., a 6-1-1, instead of the current 5-2-1. (h/t - Alligator Army).

ESPN SEC Blog: Edward Aschoff wants us to know Missouri is firm on joining SEC. I didn't know it was still an open question, though apparently Edward was intending to say that Mizzou is determined to start football play in 2012. Will we play the Tigers in their Columbia or ours?

Coaching Retention Roundup

Patrick McGee: The Hattiesburg-American's Southern Miss beat writers gives his up-to-the-minute rankings on who will be Larry Fedora's successor as head coach of the Golden Eagles. The bad news is that McGee continues to list Ellis Johnson as number 2; the good news is that current USM offensive coordinator Blake Anderson is number one. This is definitely a case where we should favor internal promotion.

Hattiesburg American: USM continues interview process. The news on Ellis Johnson's interview.

Post & Courier: Darryl Slater writes about EJ's candidacy at Southern Miss.

Gameocks Football

Cornhusker Football

Husker Extra: Not only has Nebraska been without a defensive coordinator since December 5, when Carl Pelini took the head-coaching job at Florida Atlantic, there has been no word on his replacement. To make matters worse for Big Red,NU secondary coach Marvin Sanders has joined Carl Pelini's staff as the new Florida Atlantic D.C. Both Carl Pelini and Sanders will not coach the Cap One Bowl; head coach Bo Pelini apparently is turning over the D.C. duties to his defensive line coach, 33 year old John Papuchis. The Husker coaching staff has been on a recruiting blitz this last week. Who is shaping up to be more distracted? USC or NU?

Husker Extra: South Carolina native Carter looking forward to bowl matchup.

SB Nation: Bo Pelini Bans Huskers From Tweeting .

Loose Feed

Examiner.com: Florida Gators offensive coordinator search: Reported interest in Greg Davis. Not sure how the folks in Gainesville will take to a Texas-castoff. The report confirms that Mike Shula's name is still in the mix. I don't see Gator fans being happy about Shula, either.

AJC Recruiting: RB Mike Davis liked UGA trip so much he will return for official visit . Formerly scorned and angry at the Dawgs, now Davis is experiencing the Mark Richt love bomb, and it feels so good.
