Basketball Team Season Best Performances
Since our team is in a bit of a slump, I thought we could use a positive article about them. I went through the season thus far, and pulled out what I felt were the season high performances for each player in order to see what our guys are capable of when they're in top form. I'll start with those five I believe should have a chance to start.
Eric Smith (G) 5'11", 211 - Freshman
9 Feb. vs. Florida
MIN: 20, PTS: 6, FGM: 2, FGA: 2, FTM: 0, FTA: 0, 3PM: 2, 3PA: 2, REB: 3, AST: 1, TO: 2, STL: 0, BLK: 0
Ramon Galloway (G) 6'2", 176 - Sophomore
27 Nov. at Western Kentucky
MIN: 32, PTS: 22, FGM: 8, FGA: 16, FTM: 3, FTA: 5, 3PM: 3, 3PA: 5, REB: 5, AST: 0, TO: 2, STL: 2, BLK: 0
Galloway is third on the team in points per game with 10.4.
Sam Muldrow (F) 6'9", 229 - Senior
22 Jan. vs. Kentucky
MIN: 36, PTS: 23, FGM: 7, FGA: 12, FTM: 8, FTA: 10, 3PM: 1, 3PA: 2, REB: 13, AST: 0, TO: 2, STL: 0, BLK: 3
Muldrow is second on the team in points per game with 10.7, and first on the team in rebounds per game with 7.1. He is also fourth in the nation (first in the SEC) in blocks per game, highlighted by an incredible 10 block performance against Vanderbilt back in early January, which gave him a triple double.
Malik Cooke (F) 6'6", 213 - Junior
16 Feb. at Tennessee
MIN: 29, PTS: 22, FGM: 7, FGA: 13, FTM: 5, FTA: 6, 3PM: 3, 3PA: 3, REB: 8, AST: 1, TO: 1, STL: 2, BLK: 0
Cooke has done well throughout the season, routinely scoring in double digits with a very respectable 48.5% field goal percentage. He's second on the team in free throw percentage with 75.4%. Cooke also leads the team in steals per game, and is second only to Muldrow in rebounds per game.
Johndre Jefferson (F) 6'9", 215 - Senior
1 Dec. vs. Delaware State
MIN: 15, PTS: 11, FGM: 5, FGA: 6, FTM: 1, FTA: 4, 3PM: 0, 3PA: 0, REB: 2, AST: 0, TO: 0, STL: 1, BLK: 0
Despite only having more playing time this season than R.J. Slawson, Jefferson is second on the team in blocks per game, highlighted by an incredible 5 block performance against Auburn in late January even though he only played eight minutes. Though only having taken 26 shots this season, it should be noted that Jefferson has the highest field goal percentage on the team at 69.2%. He also has the least number of turnovers per game.
Bruce Ellington (G) 5'9", 197 - Freshman
22 Dec. at Furman
MIN: 33, PTS: 31, FGM: 11, FGA: 23, FTM: 3, FTA: 4, 3PM: 6, 3PA: 13, REB: 4, AST: 3, TO: 5, STL: 1, BLK: 0

Jackson has done well for the majority of the season, routinely scoring in double digits with a very respectable 47.5% field goal percentage. He's third on the team in rebounds per game, and is second only to Ellington in assists per game.
Damontre Harris (F) 6'9", 214 - Freshman

Using the average number of minutes played by each player to determine playing time, I will attempt to list the statistics for a game if all of our players played as well as their season best performance. There were a lot of calculations. Let me know if something looks off.
Bruce Ellington - MIN: 31, PTS: 29, FG%: 45.5%, FT%: 75%, REB: 4, AST: 3, TO: 5, STL: 1, BLK: 0
Ramon Galloway - MIN: 24, PTS: 17, FG%: 50%, FT%: 50%, REB: 4, AST: 0, TO: 2, STL: 2, BLK: 0
Sam Muldrow - MIN: 29, PTS: 19, FG%: 60%, FT%: 75%, REB: 10, AST: 0, TO: 2, STL: 0, BLK: 2
Lakeem Jackson - MIN: 29, PTS: 14, FG%: 54.5%, FT%: N/A, REB: 11, AST: 4, TO: 0, STL: 3, BLK: 1
Malik Cooke - MIN: 25, PTS: 19, FG%: 54.5%, FT%: 80%, REB: 7, AST: 1, TO: 1, STL: 2, BLK: 0
Brian Richardson - MIN: 14, PTS: 8, FG%: 75%, FT%: N/A, REB: 0, AST: 0, TO: 1, STL: 0, BLK: 0
Damontre Harris - MIN: 19, PTS: 6, FG%: 50%, FT%: N/A, REB: 3, AST: 1, TO: 0, STL: 1, BLK: 2
Eric Smith - MIN: 6, PTS: 2, FG%: 100%, FT%: 100%, REB: 1, AST: 0, TO: 1, STL: 0, BLK: 0
Stephen Spinella - MIN: 5, PTS: 4, FG%: 100%, FT%: N/A, REB: 1, AST: 0, TO: 0, STL: 0, BLK: 0
Johndre Jefferson - MIN: 10, PTS: 7, FG%: 75%, FT%: 33.3%, REB: 1, AST: 0, TO: 0, STL: 1, BLK: 0
R.J. Slawson - MIN: 8, PTS: 7, FG%: 60%, FT%: 0%, REB: 2, AST: 1, TO: 1, STL: 0, BLK: 1
Team Statistics - PTS: 132, FG%: 65.9%, FT%: 59%, REB: 44, AST: 10, TO: 13, STL: 10, BLK: 6
That seems like a pretty good game. I could settle for 132 points.

Nice stats. There are definitely some things to feel good about and look forward to.
Personally, I’d like to see Ellington and Smith on the floor together more often. I realize that gives us a small backcourt, but Smith is a much more efficient passer and less prone to making reckless decisions. I feel like Ellington’s skills are sometimes better utilized when he’s not running the point.
Maybe, but I think Ellington is too high risk, high reward at any starting position.
Not having him lead with the ball every possession would be an improvement, but I think he’d be even more effective coming off the bench if we’re down and need to catch up.
stuff 'bout stuff.

its a good thing basketball only takes center stage for me in between football and baseball
because I wouldnt be able to live with myself having to fight through the seasons.
