It happened yet again,South Carolina and Michael Roth handles the putty-cats (sorry just had to take a stab at them).
More after the jump!
Behind a solid outing from Michael Roth and a few long balls, the Gamecocks rallied from a 3-0 deficit early, to win 6-3; showing that heart and determination yet again that won them the National Championship last season.
Roth threw 7 innings of 7 hit baseball, and yielding no Earned Runs while striking out 6 to 3 walks... and all this coming against a Tigers team who has pretty much done what they want to on offense up to this point. Roth got off to a shaky start, walking the leadoff man in the 2nd, before a fielding error on the slick-fielding Mooney ended up turning into 2 runs, and another added on after a single up the middle. But Roth settled down for the next 5 innings of work shutting down Clemson's offense en route to his 3rd win of the season.
Yet again Walker had a stellar night playing the role of catalyst in the first 4 runs of the game, taking a ball on his hand to start the 2nd inning which turned into a Brady Thomas 2 run homer to narrow the deficit to 3-2, before Walker himself drilled a 2 run homer in the 5th to give the Yard Cocks a 4-3 lead. The offense overall was very good against what is a fairly solid Friday night ace, I will happily take 3, 2 run bombs every game against a guy who throws up in the mid 90's.
The only real alarming occurrence that comes out of this game for me is Bradley Jr.'s struggles at the plate in the clutch situations. Jackie failed to get a hit in a couple at bat's with runners in scoring position. It appears he is trying to be the big gun and swing for the fences every time he gets up, as opposed to what hes best at, and that's competitive at bat'suntil he finds one he can do something with and hitting it into a hole.
