For your reading pleasure. Or disgust, considering that most of the news in the college sports world this week was of the distressing variety.

Carolina Gamecocks Blog - Spur of the Moment - Travis Haney | The Post and Courier, Charleston SC - News, Sports, Entertainment

Travis Haney provides some useful information about the Bruce Ellington situation. Some interesting tidbits: Spurrier is fairly open to letting Ellington spend as much time as he wants on basketball over the summer, and Horn plans to start recruiting another PG in the event that Ellington never returns to basketball.

Coach says Gill still good with USC

Interesting quote:

USC basketball recruit Anthony Gill of Charlotte has no plans to back out on his commitment to the Gamecocks his high school coach said Wednesday. "Best I can tell, he's ready to go," Shonn Brown said.

Has there been talk among recruits that Horn is done?

Galloway eyeing four schools

Former USC guard Ramon Galloway is considering Temple, LaSalle, Central Florida and South Florida for his new school. Galloway is scheduled to visit Temple next weekend. Temple appears to be the favorite. I have this very depressing feeling that whichever school he chooses will see the post-season before Carolina.

I reject the notion that Ellington will be anything more than a special teams player.

Byrd has more athleticism, and Sanders and Sherman have more experience, and perhaps more or at least comparable athleticism. If they’re looking for a quick, undersized receiver, those are their guys. I also don’t see him being a factor at quarterback in the wildwing formation (my new name for it since Gilmore package may not be relevant anymore, and I didn’t like any of the other existing names). Shaw would have to be injured, McEvoy would probably have to be injured, and Gilmore has more experience in it. My biggest fear is they give him reps at some position ahead of a more qualified guy just ’cause people expect to see him play.

Lakeem Jackson is a tall dude with bulk who looks like a tough fellow. If he played football growing up, and can catch, I think he’s the one who should be playing both sports.

stuff 'bout stuff.

I don't see Spurrier giving him reps just because some people want to see him play. I'm not too worried about that.

Spurrier will play the best players. He knows how important this season is to his legacy. It’s his best chance yet to win an SEC Title, which is his ultimate goal.

I completely agree with you, though, that it’s very hard to see exactly what Ellington’s place is on the team.
