Someone asked Haney on twitter earlier if Roth had ever gone on 3 days rest.
Haney said only once…the night we won it all last year. Let’s battle!

Florida is throwing Karsten Whitson.
He’s a true freshman who was a 1st round pick out of high school. I’m not positive, but I think he was the guy who pitched when UF beat us.

Hudson Randall was the won who got the win agaist us.
We faced Karsten Whitson in the 4-3 Sunday win. His line from that game was 5.0 ip, 2 h, 1 ER, 2 bb, 5 so.

Florida has kept him on a VERY strict PC all year
I think O’Sullivan is using it as a recruiting pitch with other high level pitchers, but it means we should see the BP relatively early even if the starter is pitching well.

Wow – what a finish last night! Your team just never ever says quit.
As I said before, we’ll always be bummed about last year, but against Florida you’ll have all the Bruins rooting for you. Go USC! (hmm, that just sounds so unnatural to me ;-) ).

Michael Roth is now the CWS career ERA leader
He has it by decimal points 0.9557 vs current record holder’s 0.9574
Current record holder is an Ohio State hurler from the 60’s. He’s from the 60’s, so you can call him a hurler.

According to Travis Haney,
that last out took Roth’s season ERA back under 1. That’s pretty good.

You'd sure never believe it from the announcing. How many times did they say Florida was shooting themselves in the foot by chasing Roth's pitches?
Did it ever occur to them that that’s exactly what Roth is trying to get them to do?

That was one of my complaints
They kept talking about Gators chasing. They were chasing because Roth had them guessing and off-balance. That’s what he does. I believe his regular season high for walks in a game was three.

Precisely. That's his game. The Gators weren't off their game. They just got used by a great pitcher.
If it only happens once, maybe it’s a fluke. When a guy plays an entire season with around a 1.00 ERA, there might just be a logic behind what he’s doing.

Orel especially seemed to think the solution
was for the O’Sullivan to tell his team, “Hey, don’t swing unless it’s a strike. If it IS a strike, hit it with that stick.”
Ohhhhh. That’s what they’re supposed to do. Thanks, Skip.

I didn't remember Hershiser as a flamethrower, but
realize I was a kid, so maybe I either was not aware, or only knew the late career Hershiser. I decided to look him up.
Here’s what I found:
Known for his slight frame and fierce competitive spirit, Hershiser was nicknamed “Bulldog” by team manager Tommy Lasorda…
In the 1988 National League Championship Series between Hershiser’s Dodgers and the New York Mets, Hershiser not only started Games 1 and 3, but recorded the final out in Game 4 in relief for a save. He then pitched a shutout in Game 7. He was selected MVP of the series.
Hershiser then capped his historic season in the World Series by pitching a shutout in Game 2 and allowing two runs in a complete game in the clinching victory in Game 5, winning the World Series MVP Award…
Hershiser was not an overpowering pitcher, for his fastball was in the 89-91 mph range in his prime. However he possessed very fine control, and his average velocity on his fastball was more than made up for with its tremendous sinking action. This caused batters to beat scores of balls into the ground, leading to easy outs. He complemented his sinker with a well-above average curve ball that would often freeze hitters or cause them to completely lose their timing. He also threw a quality slider that he would spot in on the hands of left-handed hitters, showing them something that moved in the opposite direction of his fastball. He also threw the odd changeup and splitter, but mainly stuck to his tremendous sinker and curve ball.
Even before you throw in a well-known scoreless innings pitched streak, who does that sound like? Orel’s wikipedia entry describes him as basically a professional version of Michael Roth.
It makes his apparent lack of respect for Roth and fascination with power pitchers, also evident in the UCLA series, even more mystifying. If I may pull my therapist stocking over my head, perhaps Hershiser likes power pitchers because they display a style and ability he never possessed and consciously or subconsciously envied?
I don’t know, but it is really confounding.

I think it’s a more tolerable song (at least the part that is played), so I’d go with the two early 90’s pop-hop songs. I never understand why those are played in an arena or stadium.
