THE DAILY FEED 08.12.11 // Ethan Carter to return, Clowney violates someone, and more

FOOTBALL

South Carolina fall football practice continues Thursday | TheTandD.com
Not much news coming out of practice today.

"Just a decent little inside-the-25/overtime scrimmage we had today," said head coach Steve Spurrier following the practice session. "The first defense did pretty well. The first offense wasn't too good. The second offense scored most of the time it seemed like. We had some good plays here and there. Damiere Byrd seems to make a play or two all the time. Other than that, just very average. Nobody got hurt today, so it was a decent practice."

Some good stuff here from the World Wide Leader. See, folks? You don't need to upgrade to the sports package. It's all on the web. All hail the internet!

In the same vein, this is by far the stupidest thing I have ever seen masquerading as "sports coverage." And I've seen my own work.

Free agent receiver grabs attention at Packers camp | JSOnline
Whoa, whoa. Is this true?

"Gurley is far from a finished product - he knows that. But he also never dropped a pass in college."

This is a great article and well worth your time. It underscores why I was mad that Tori Gurley left after only two years -- purely selfish reasons, mind you -- he was great for our team. Best of luck to him. I think we all knew that he would be OK, even if we wasn't drafted.

That's right folks, we've got D-line depth for miles. This is going to be a good year.

Our offensive line is progressing nicely under the the tutelage of Shawn Elliot. The new-comers, in particular, are holding their own in practice against one of the best defensive lines in the country.

SEC EXPANSION

Can SEC Schools Block Others From Joining the Conference? | Team Speed Kills
Will conference expansion talk ever end? My guess is that we'll still be hearing about this until the season gets underway. If I do have to hear about it, I prefer TSK's coverage. Year2 goes beyond mere speculation and brings in, you know, actual facts. I still don' t think Clemson has a snowball's chance of coming into the SEC, but I can't tell if that's my honest opinion or just my wishful thinking.

KRATCH: Addition of Texas A&M would only be the beginning for SEC | The Daily Gamecock
I think Mr. Kratch lets his imagination get away from him in this one. A 20 team league? I don't see that happening.

BASEBALL

Baseball Recruiting Notebook 8-10 | The Big Spur
It would appear that Ethan Carter will be returning to the Gamecocks this fall. Good news, to be sure. It does beg the question, though, what does one do that gets one kicked off a team but still allows for one's return?

It seems like a bunch of hogwash to me. Sure hope it dies a quick death.

Why waste a comment on such a ridiculous piece.

If he wants to make an allegation, he should come out with it. Until then, it’s no more than another taternet rumor.

Same site that claimed to have video of Nikki Haley having sex with someone, right?

Don’t grace these idiots with your page hits. This is just a guy who wants attention—don’t give it to him.

To be honest,

I have had a standing policy of not linking to FitsNews ever since their ridiculous hit job on Mrs. Eric Hyman. I’ve even taken it off the list of sites I check for stories – so I haven’t seen it. But I gather from friends and twitter that it has something to do with SAT scores and our baseball team?

My only comment is that it would be hard to believe that Ray Tanner — in so many other instances a stickler for the rules — would either turn a blind eye towards this type of thing or encourage it outright. Also, given all the academic accolades our team has received, I don’t even know of any players that would have needed help in the SAT score department.

I checked high and low on the internets for any other such “news” regarding allegations, but couldn’t find anything. So for me, it’s a non-story at this point.

UGA may beat us.

That is definitely a possible outcome. It’s in Athens, they have tradition, USC isn’t a real SEC team. You know, whatever else Bulldog fans have to say about us.

But they will not rack up 200 or more yards on the ground. He throws out all this talk and then anyone that disagrees he treats like a crazy person.

It's not that I don't think UGA can't beat us.

Heck, anything can happen in that game. I just really don’t see them beating us on the ground. I think any successful UGA game plan will feature a significant dose of Aaron Murray being the best QB in the SEC.
