Spurrier ready to use speedy trio of slot receivers | Anderson Independent Mail
Wide receiver is literally the only position I have no worries about.
Marty Markett put on scholarship | The Daily Gamecock
Funny how just a few months ago people were decrying South Carolina for over-signing. Now, low and behold, we've got an extra scholarship to give a walk-on. Funny how that works.
Changing of the guard at USC | Life of a Gamecock
Adam makes the cogent point that South Carolina is finally becoming more than just the current location of coaching great Steve Spurrier.
Spurrier's great Garcia gamble | Fox Sports South
A gamble? Really? Some people just don't know what they're talking about. The Garcia situation cannot be boiled down to a mere "gamble." And "yes," he did compare Spurrier's handling of Stephen Garcia to Jim Tressel and Terrelle Pryor.
Gamecocks' Mattox suspended | OnlineAthens.com
Our DB woes continue. This one is just stupid. Go to class, kids. Especially freshman.
Lorenzo Ward Eyes Improvement in USC Secondary | wltx.com
I'm just not very confident in our defensive backfield right now. I'm sorry, that's just how I feel.
GENE SAPAKOFF: Kicking in to help new USC kicker | The Post and Courier
I find Gene Sapakoff's writing... confusing. I like what I'm hearing about John Butler so far, though.
The SEC's best 25 players: No. 6 | SEC Blog - ESPN
Impressive to be listed among the Top 25 players in the SEC for Mr. Don't-say-nothin. Last year I used to think that Devin Taylor was underrated, but it appears I can't make that same claim this year.
'Canes commit considering USC visit | Palmetto Sports
Looks like the Miami fallout could positively impact South Carolina
Next-Level Notebook: Pelzer moves closer to big leagues | TheTandD.com
Congratulations to Holly Hill native Wynn Pelzer. Looks like someone upstairs heard my plea for more Gamecocks in the Majors a few weeks back. Well, almost.
USC infielder no longer an invited walk-on after DUI arrest | WIS News 10
He gone. Coach Tanner runs a tight ship. Then again, I guess you can afford to dismiss players upon first offense when you have nine guys trying out for the same position and there is no such thing as a "two-deep."
Carolina Gamecocks Blog - Spur of the Moment - Travis Haney | The Post and Courier
I'm going to write a post about this a little later, but let's just say I'm less than thrilled with how our interim beat guy chose to introduce himself.
I covered my first USC game in 1982 for UPI and watched Herschel Walker run all over the Gamecocks. Watched in 1984 as Navy ended USC’s bid for a perfect season. I’ve been around the program for almost 30 years.
P&C columnist Gene Sapakoff and I will share the beat, shuttling between the Holy City and Columbia, on an interim basis until we find a permanent replacement for Travis. (Gene picked the Gamecocks to go 12-0 this season, which has to be a sign of the apocalypse).

Larger USC band prepares for louder show under Rebecca Phillips | The Daily Gamecock
Changes afoot for the Mighty Sound of the Southeast.
Though the band has grown from 248 musicians to 280, the full band will be traveling to three of the five away games on the Gamecocks’ schedule this fall.
The Roost: CCU and South Carolina have football matchup in the works | TheSunNews.com
Many people may be upset that we are playing an FCS school -- and Coastal Carolina in particular. Do not count me among them. If we have to play FCS schools, than I'd rather it be a team from the state of South Carolina than some directional school from Louisiana. I think the games are more fun from a fan's perspective. I don't buy into the whole "we shouldn't be legitimizing their program" argument either. Coastal Carolina's athletics program is on the upswing whether we condone it or not. Frankly, we should be good enough that this game is a gimme no matter what. If we end up losing to an FCS opponent like so many times in years passed, my friend, we have much larger problems to worry about.
“They group their games into five-year increments with the South Carolina FCS schools,” Yurachek said. “… When those [current contracts] expire, they’re set to work on 2016-2020 and Eric Hyman has assured me we’ll be in that mix.”

USC releases 2011-12 women's basketball non-conference schedule | WIS News 10
I think this is the year we start to see real progress from our women's basketball program. It would have been last year if not for the defection of Kelsey Bone. But hey, everyone has to deal with one of those every now and then. Or every year (looking at you Coach Horn).
Gamecock basketball adds Baker & Morris | Life of a Gamecock
Gamecocks basketball has garnered the commitments of a 4-star and a 3-star recruit. No word if the staff has told them that they're not a good for our program yet.
