SEC Power Poll Ballot: Week Three

NASHVILLE, TN - SEPTEMBER 17: Coach James Franklin makes a point to Micah Powell #20 of the Vanderbilt Commodores during a win against the Ole Miss Rebels at Vanderbilt Stadium on September 17, 2011 in Nashville, Tennessee. Vanderbilt won 30-7. (Photo by Grant Halverson/Getty Images)

Here's my ballot, revised from yesterday's draft. I've included explanations when appropriate.

1. LSU Tigers

2. Alabama Crimson Tide

3. Florida Gators

4. Arkansas Razorbacks

After further consideration, I think you have to say that UF's 10-point victory over Tennessee is better than Arkansas's 10-point victory over Troy. The Hogs will get their chance to move up when they play Alabama this week.

5. South Carolina Gamecocks

6. Georgia Bulldogs

7. Auburn Tigers

8. Mississippi St. Bulldogs

9. Tennessee Volunteers

You guys have convinced me that I had UT too high. They've not done anything noteworthy this year, and now their best WR is out for the season. MSU has to get credit for playing a tough schedule thus far.

10. Vanderbilt Commodores

Beat South Carolina and we'll talk.

11. Kentucky Wildcats

12. Mississippi Rebels

You guys were right that Ole Miss needs to go last. Any team that loses to Vandy by 23 is a very bad team.

UGA at Ole Miss.

If the Dawgs lose to the Rebs, I don’’t think CMR will be allowed back into Clarke County. Heck, he might not be allowed into Georgia.

If the Rebs lose to the Dawgs – especially in a Vandy-like blow-out – Houston Nutt should just pack it in. The Rebel fans actually think back-to-back Cotton Bowls is the norm, not the exception to the rule.

Bonus! – one of these teams will no longer be 0-fer against FBS opponents in 2011.

UGA is going to slaughter them. Nutt is done. I know it may seem like the Rebels have unreasonable expectations, but really, I can't blame them for being upset about this.

Maybe it’s unreasonable to expect them to beat LSU, ‘Bama, and the like, but it’s not unreasonable to think they can win games against Jacksonville St. and Vandy. Nutt has let that program go to absolute crap in only two years. To be honest, they have as much reason to believe they can win some games each year as we do, and they’re way behind us—as well as their Bulldog brethren, which is probably what really chaps them, rightfully so, IMO. Nutt simply isn’t a particularly good coach. He has those few games each year that just blow your mind when he upsets big-time opponents, but no coach worth his salt would have teams that as unprepared as his teams all so frequently are.
