Helmet Design Aesthetics
I know that the issue of logo design concerning Gamecock football helmets came up some years ago. Wasn't it that they wanted to do the interlocking USC but they were blocked by the Trojans? UGA has the best, imo.
I wish they would revisit this helmet design issue soon. I don't think it is aesthetically pleasing. I like the Gamecock logo and the block C but not together. A lot of football fans I'm close with have told me the same thing. What do you all think, and could we be making a change sometime soon?

The Kentucky helmet really does stand out.
But i think it’s because it is that shade of blue. It really gets your attention, especially right next to the UGA helmet.
I liked the white Kentucky helmets more, personally. But I think the blue is a nice look also. Makes sense though, Kentucky is GO BIG BLUE.

Idea?
I really am pretty conservative and I have liked the current design because it is what we had when I was in school in the mid-late 70’s. I like the block C with the gamecock inside, it is unique and easily identifies the school. However, there seems to be a real trend towards updating or changing the helmet. I say don’t do it just to change it, by but let’s do it because it is better and identifies USC better. In that vein I offer this suggestion as an addition to our helmet lineup, maybe as a road helmet. I really like the Boise State helmet with the Bronco head outline across the side. I think a black or garnet helmet with a Gamecock, spurs up wings forward, beak bared to bite, would be an excellent addition. This would be easily identifiable as a fighting gamecock, it would be more modern and aggressive and could actually be placed on helmets of any of our three colors (if designed in different color patterns). I would prefer a design contest or something though that would allow the fans some input, since we foot the bill!!!!!!
Whatever appeals
to high school recruits!
I like the interlocking USC, but really there is nothing wrong with the current design. A design contest is a good idea.

I think the previous discussion regarding the design centered around the Gamecock logo and how while being a cool design, it doesn’t translate well to a football helmet when viewed from afar, or even on tv. Something about there being too many cool details.
Why can’t we have basically the same logo for all the sports teams? I like the interlocking SC on the baseball caps a lot. Why can’t they use that? What is so bad about being South Carolina? I don’t quite get the obsession with being “Carolina”. If I had to work with the current design, I would get rid of the C and just have the gamecock logo, which admittedly is really cool. Or simply do the barbed interlocking SC.
I realize this may not be a big issue for a lot, if not most people, but somehow the composition irks me.

Part of the issue with the interlocking SC logo centered around the lawsuit filed by Southern California
it was an attempted to block us from using their trademarked SC logo. Which really pissed me off, it’s bad enough that we have to be called USCe or USCjr…. they had to go and take away SC? Technically the team was allowed to continue using the logo for its uniform purposes, but I don’t think we were suppose to be able to sell merchandise that has the interlocking SC logo. Maybe it’s locked up in appeals and that’s why we can still use it, not really sure. Part of the problem is that for a while we had too many logos. We had the USC waterfall, the Block C, the Block C with the gamecock, the gamecock, and the interlocking SC.
I kind of like the more traditional looks, but we’ve been changing things up a lot lately. Not as much as Maryland or Oregon, but we’ve certainly changed our things a lot.
It pains me to admit this, but Georgia probably has my favorite uniforms(in the SEC). Even with their Green Bay Packers logo. The silver britches are iconic and the red jerseys and red helmets really stand out.

My take is that
I don’t love the Block C and Gamecock aesthetically, but it’s been our logo since roughly 1981 and with the passage of thirty-odd years, it’s become our tradition – so I’ve come to love it since it’s ours. It’s sort of like the fact I don’t intrinsically love the layout of W-B, or it’s location, or the fact our fans wear a muddle of garnet, black and white while others have one identifiable school color. Yet, I love all those things in spite of their flaws since they are uniquely ours.
So all in all, I am loathe to alter any of our traditions (though I would ditch the 2011 football uniform and go back to the pre-2011 UnderArmour uniforms).

Forgot to post a link
to this site which has historical football helmets . You have to click on the Southeastern button on the left, and then scroll down a bit.

Wow, the link was really helpful for context. I chuckled when I saw some of those old designs for all the other teams, especially the interlocking UF.
I get what you’re saying, and I too have a soft spot for tradition. But sometimes changes are good as well and if done correctly, can establish a new lineage of tradition, one that everyone can be proud of, etc. Think of it this way: Say I have a gigantic mole on the end of my nose, with varying length, thickness and curliness of hairs gracefully portruding out from it. After years and years, this may become some type of endearing trait to all those I know. After a while though, I decide to get it removed because it is for the best.
I am aware that is a rough, rough analogy at best. But nothing lasts forever and sometimes things change for the better and new traditions become established until they are “old” traditions. For example, one cannot picture a Gamecocks game at WB without Sandstorm or the frantically waved white towels, but those are relatively new traditions.
The university will never ask my opinion, but the logo and block C are hideous conflicts of texture and design. Out of the vintage helmets, I prefer the 1969-74 variety, sans the banner. I like that the Gamecock is positioned to face the opponent and the design is uncluttered. Moving to that type of helmet would be a lot like what Arkansas is now.

I agree tryptic.
looking at the link, i like the helmets with the bigger block C. Also, I really like the Vanderbilt helmet that says “Vandy” on it.
And, some of the stuff you mentioned Spurrier has been working to fix. Especially the in stadium looks. He’s not abandoning our colors but trying to unite our fans under one color, Garnet. Although, I would like to have one game a year that we wear black. Kinda like LSU has the “Purple Game”. And you’ve seen the changes he has made in painting the stadium garnet. I don’t have a problem with the location of the stadium so much as I am really looking forward to the improvements of the area around it. I like that it’s not that difficult to find parking, I just wish the area was greener and nicer. Which is apparently coming.
I would also like to revamp the concession stands and lower level of the stadium. I hate to say it, but Clemson’s stadium is much nicer in that regard.

Also, RE: pre-2011 UnderArmour uniforms.
Like I said before the season, I like the shade of Garnet this year, but didn’t like the uni design. Keep the same color and change the design.

Personally, I wish we'd go back to the garnet helmet w/the white circle/block C logo from the 80's-90's...
Seen here with all-white uni’s:

Seen here with white pants and black jerseys (which we should bring back):

And seen here with white pants and garnet jerseys:

(Note: Contrary to the misleading evidence in the images; the player does have shins.)
I don’t know why, but I just don’t like the white helmets; and for God’s sake please don’t ever let the team put back on those atrocious black helmets that we wore in 2004. Those things should be removed from the historical record.

I am ok with either the Garnet helmets or the White ones.
I personally love the Garnet jerseys and White pants look. I know Spurrier is working towards making us all wear Garnet in stead of the muddle of Garnet/Black/White. And I really would love the black jerseys once per year. I don’t care if we wear them for an OOC opponent like ECU or Navy. Or a lower OOC opponent like Troy.
I like the White helmets now because we have been with them for so much time recently and completely agree on the ugly black helmets from 2004.

love those pre-2011 uniforms
they have a classic and modern look .. .the 2011 versions are ugly …
i love the old garnet helmets because those were the ones we wore when i was a fan, but i think the white helmets work just as well, and in South Carolina, a lighter colored helmet makes sense for those scorching September and October games.

I’d like to see us have some kind of alternate garnet helmets, seems many schools are doing two (or more) helmets nowadays. Kids seem to love it, and anything that helps in recruiting can’t be bad.
Just as long as we don’t bring back the old interlocking USC logo. That thing was about as boring as it gets.
