SEC Hoops Power Poll Draft Ballot: 1/22-1/28
If you have any thoughts about my ballot, let me know.
Needed some help from the officials to hold off 'Bama, but I don't think anyone can argue that they're not the best team in the league at this point. The question is whether they're good enough to compete for a national title, and the jury is still out on that one.
Maybe the toughest team in the conference to figure out. The Bulldogs lost at Ole Miss and followed that up with a road victory against Vanderbilt. Hard to know which team will show up day to day. I still like them at the two spot because they have some nice wins, but I'm open to moving them.
Impressive win at 'Bama shows what this team is capable of, but, like MSU, they seem to lack the consistency needed to challenge Kentucky.
I'll move this team up once they beat a really good team. They're lacking in quality wins for the time being.
Remember when I said recently that I don't think 'Bama has what it takes to break into the top tier of the SEC quite yet? Well, after playing three teams from that tier, they're on a three-game losing streak. That said, winnable games are on their way for the Tide, and I expect their fortunes to change quickly.
Nice win over Michigan for the Hogs. Still, another team that needs to establish a bit more consistency if it's going to make a run at an NCAA berth.
I had written the Rebels off for dead after the shellacking they suffered from LSU, but they're now 3-2 in the league with a couple of nice victories under their belts. I could easily see putting them at 6, but I'll leave them here, for now.
Shouldn't have lost to UGA, but the win over UConn certainly helps. Generally playing better than their record.
9. LSU Tigers
After a nice stretch of wins, LSU has hit a tough spot with a handful of road losses. Will it be able to right the ship?
10. Georgia Bulldogs
The Dawgs picked up a nice win against Tennessee but couldn't follow up on it with a victory over Ole Miss. Not really sure that they don't deserve the 11th spot, but I like that Tennessee victory, as the Vols are playing well right now.
11. Auburn Tigers
Although it may not like its ranking at the 11th spot, Aubie can rest easy knowing that it's 11 points better than the team below it.
Clearly the league's worst team after taking a whipping at Auburn.

During this SEC hoops season, you can only count on two thing
that Kentucky is by far and way the best team …. and South Carolina is by far and away the worst team.
Everyone else is in a jumble, and an upper division team one week looks like a lower division team the second week, before climbing back into the upper division the third, only to have clay feet during the fourth.
I can’t quibble with your rankings, except I think the Hogs’ non-conference win over # 19 Michigan, plus 2-2 record in their last four games should put them ahead of the Tide, who is 1-3 in their last four and on a three game skid.
In the Tide’s defense, they had to play a hard schedule of LSU (win), @ MSU (loss), Vandy (loss) and @ UK (loss). That’s a tough run.
But we’ve had a tough slate here of late too (UK, Vandy, Florida and Auburn) and no one has cut us any slack on our skid. Not that we deserve much, but that’s hardly the point.

I'll give some thought to your comments about 'Bama-Ark.
To me, ‘Bama is still the better team; they’ve just faced a tougher schedule. And honestly, they might have beaten UK yesterday if not for the officiating. That said, you may be right about Ark. being the better team. They did get a nice win yesterday.
You’re also definitely right that it’s hard to sort out the middle of the conference right now.

When there are 10 teams in the middle
it gets confusing!

While the 'Cats certainly have some work to do,
I don’t know why you feel the jury is still out on us being able to contend for a national title. We’ve already beaten two top ten teams, and our only loss came on the road to a team that has also beaten Ohio State. I’m not saying we are the best, but I don’t think any other team has proven themselves as being better. (and P.S. the officiating stunk for both Bama and the ‘Cats Saturday, Terrence Jones got called for a foul while trying for a block on a transition play late in the game, while replays showed he wasn’t within a foot of touching him)
That's fair enough.
There’s no doubt UK is capable of contending for a national title. I more meant, should they be considered the favorite at this point? And really, that’s probably a pointless claim, because no team has established itself as the clear favorite. You’re right that UK appears to be as good as anybody.
