Half Cocked, Episode 8: It's Not Particularly Clever

Though we were exhausted from a long day of watching college football, The Feathered Warrior and I fought off fatigue, hunger, and a mass extinction event so that we could bring you this bonus episode of Half Cocked. We reacted to the Gamecocks' 30-13 Capital One Bowl victory over Nebraska, took joy in the misery of the Georgia Bulldogs, and said a lot of things that just weren't true. Also, I marveled at the facial features of Kirk Cousins and Aaron Murray. Is it our best episode? Probably not. But finish everything on your plate because kids in Somalia don't even have podcasts.

I don’t really understand why throwing punches comes with a bigger penalty than grabbing facemasks and such. Punches to the helmet are far less dangerous, and probably more damaging to the puncher, than grabbing a facemask and twisting and churning or whatever they do in that instance.

Braves.
Falcons.
Gamecocks.

A fair point

in a one-off situation a face mask, horse collar or chop block is more dangerous than one fist to a helmet. But, in the heat of the game, a punch can quickly escalate to a general melee, as very few kids (or adults) can walk away from an unanswered punch; it’s a sign of Jeffery’s maturity that he didn’t start exchanging blows. Once a melee starts, then its punches, kicks, throw-downs – that is why I think punches are automatic ejections.
