James A. Carlen: 1933-2012

Jim Carlen died today at his home in Columbia at the age of 79. He coached the Gamecocks from 1975 to 1981, serving as the Athletic Director at the same time, and posting a 45-36-1 record during his stay in Columbia. He coached Heisman Trophy winner George Rogers, as well as other Gamecock greats like Jeff Grantz, Ronnie Bass, Kevin Long and Johnny Wright just to name a few. We'll have more on the life of Jim Carlen in the coming days.
