You wanna be a Gamecock er wut? - Al Messerschmidt
Most Gamecocks were hoping to pick some linebacker commitments during this weekend's official visit bonanza, but I doubt many were expecting the first one to come from a high school junior.
Dillon linebacker Joe Blue strongly hinted during the run-up to the big recruiting weekend - which he is attending as an unofficial visitor - that he could be close to making a decision about where he'd like to go to school. The Big Spur is reporting that Blue has decided to go ahead and pull the trigger and has become the Gamecocks first verbal commitment of the 2014 class over prestigious offers from the likes of Southern Cal, Auburn, and LSU.
This is how Blue stacks up according to 247Sports:
3 stars, 428th player in the 2014 class
20th ILB in the country
12th best player in South Carolina
Blue's commitment comes almost a year to the day after former Wildcat teammate D.J. Park became the first commitment of South Carolina's 2013 class.
