Saturday evening against the Houston Astros, Micheal Roth made his major league debut for the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim. As an Astros fan I was a bit torn but rooting for Roth (Astros were winning so it made that easier). I was more than pleased with his outing and I hope he can exceed expectations at the major league level.
Here are a couple GIFs from Saturday nights outing.
Roth gets Justin Maxwell, his first major league hitter, out on a ground out to short.
He follows the ground out with a strikeout of Jason Castro.
And then strikes out Chris Carter who had previously hit a homerun in the game
He collected two more strike outs in his second inning of work in the ninth keeping the Angels within a run of the Astros and keying the eventual Angels come back in the ninth inning and his first major league win as a pitcher.
It's quite amazing and unique that Roth is in the majors so early. He's only had 27 innings in the minor but due to the Angels bad farm system he's in a unique situation in which the Astros are desperate for pitching and apparently have seen something in him to give him a shot in the major leagues.
