Many of you probably remember Columbia High/Decatur, GA defensive end commit Jhaustin Thomas from the 2012 cycle. Thomas didn't qualify and went the JUCO route. Today, Thomas and the Carolina coaching staff agreed that Thomas would join Carolina in 2014. Thomas hopes to graduate from Trinity Valley C.C. in Texas in December so he can participate in spring practice. Regardless of whether that happens, the coaches want him, and he wants to be a part of our program.
When he was being recruited, Thomas was talked about as a player in Devin Taylor's mold--a tall, long-armed, powerful end who could help us stop the run, rush the quarterback, and use his wingspan to defend passes on the line of scrimmage. Thomas has since bulked up and is now, going into his sophomore season, even bigger than Taylor was as a senior. Thomas is a player who can help us right away in 2014, and that's awfully important. Jadeveon Clowney and Chaz Sutton are going to be gone after this year, and while we have mega-talents Shameik Blackshear and Arden Key joining us in 2015, we're a little shorter on quality ends for 2014. Bringing in a quality, experienced JUCO in Thomas will make a huge difference.
Welcome back, Jhaustin.
