Phillip Dukes
Redshirt Sophomore Defensive Tackle
6'3", 315 lbs.
Manning, SC
Recruitment:
4 stars, 14th-ranked defensive tackle in the 2011 class
Other offers: North Carolina, Alabama, Clemson, Auburn
College Career:
Dukes redshirted in 2011 and saw limited action in 5 games in 2012.
2012 Stats
5 games played, 3 tackles
2013 Outlook:
The rumor about Dukes is that he didn't respond very well to Brad Lawing's "no nonsense" coaching techniques and that Deke Adams' arrival in Columbia has sparked a turnaround for the former four-star prospect after two seasons of giving you no reason to remember that he was the fourth-highest rated player in the Jadeveon Clowney signing class.
Dukes was listed behind Kelcy Quarles on the spring depth chart, but the big redshirt sophomore is also battling Gerald Dixon, Jr. to unseat J.T. Surratt at the other defensive tackle position. If nothing else, Dukes will add nice depth on the interior line while positioning himself to compete for a starting position in 2014 and 2015.
Trivia:
Dukes was recognized as the most improved defensive lineman at the 2013 spring game.

Possible Todd Ellis play-by-play call:
ARE YOU KIDDING ME? Phillip Dukes broke through the line and just CLOBBERED Aaron Murray. You've got to let Phillip eat until he is FILLED. UP.
