South Carolina 62 Florida 58

South Carolina 62 Florida 58

The Lady Gamecocks (19-6, 8-4) rebounded from their humbling loss at Arkansas by besting Florida (16-9, 6-6) this evening at the Colonial Life Arena. Dawn Staley's squad came out angry from the opening tap and held a commanding ten point lead (43-33) at the end of the first frame. The Lady Gators stormed back in the second half, however, and knotted it up 54-54 at 6:32 before Gamecock senior G Markeshia Grant hit a big time three to take back the lead for good. It was dicey down to the last minute until USC senior G La'keisha Sutton hit a shot at :32 to extend the Garnet and Black's lead to 61-58; the Lady Gators missed two shots at the end and Sutton made a final free throw at :01 to seal a 62-58 win. Grant paced all scorers with 20 points (7-13 from the floor, 5-6 from the arc), along with 3 rebounds and 1 block.

Clemson to the Big XII?

Clemson to the Big XII?

Over at MrSEC.com, John Pennington has an interesting post entitled Clemson AD Shoots Down Big 12 rumors occasioned by the fact Clemson uber-homer David Hood asked Terry Don Phillips if there was any validity to rumors "swirling" that the Big XII might be targeting Clemson and FSU . Now just because TDP says it ain't so doesn't necessarily mean it ain't so. Could we get so lucky to have the Tigers play in a league dominated by schools across the Mississippi? I doubt it. It would likely take a pack of dogs and a crow-bar to pry Clemmy away from the easy-pickings of the ACC to the more competitive Big XII. And even though CU has a nation-wide recruiting dragnet, they couldn't expect to do that much better in overall recruiting with a conference switch. It would be a heroically dumb move on the part of Clemson to leave the ACC. So, alas, we can't find much reason to suspect the rumors are nothing more than pie-in-the-sky from Big XII country.
