This week's cover girl tweet comes from Brittany Lane of Spurs Up Blog. She makes a point that hadn't occurred to me, either, even though my birthday came well after the '84 Navy game too. Actually, "well after" isn't exactly true. The timing of my birthday is conspicuous given that it comes approximately nine months after the aforementioned "Navy game." Don't ask me how I figured that out. But I digress. Anyway, I've heard about the Navy game enough that it feels like I was not only alive when it happened, but that I was there. This is a must-win game for the Gamecocks this year if, for no other reason, than we can finally move past it as a fan base. 

This team, being so far removed from 1984, has an advantage over the 1988 squad that avenged our defeat. The loss is not visceral for them. Indeed, I get the feeling that this team is running against a whole host of demons that we as Carolina fans have held onto for a long time. It is important to remember that these kids are not fans yet. They're still players -- young players. Everyone has their own personal litmus test of something that makes them feel old. For me, it's whether or not you were old enough to see the Lion King in theaters. That's a line of demarcation for my generation. If you saw Simba become a man on the silver screen, you and I share a cultural bond. If not, well, get the heck off my lawn you whippersnapper!

Because I think we're all tired of looking at Lane Kiffin at this point.

I was over at Heisman Pundit the other night checking out some of the linked articles from TSK and ran across the following in the comments section:

"I guess everyone conveniently forgets how Kiffin got tennessee to outperform expectations, was about 2 plays from beating both Florida and Alabama (you know, the 2 best teams in the country) with far inferior talent, and turned JONATHAN EFFIN CROMPTON into an all-sec quarterback. HP, your one-man crusade against this man is bordering on obsessive. At USC, we know he’s going to get recruiting classes that could be superior to even Carrols, he has an outstanding staff, and there is a legit chance that there will be no dropoff at all for USC. Also, the recruiting violations Lane committed at UT were mostly petty secondary violations that were self-reported (i.e. the same crap everyone else does). You said all the same crap about how terrible Lane Kiffin was last year, and he was 2 Terrance Cody blocks away from making you look like a fool."

3. The flip side of rule two: if you're a fan of another school, you must exercise the same respect for us that we exercise for you. If you don't, you won't be allowed to come back.

4. Please refrain from using profanity, which is inconsistent with the reasoned tone we wish to adopt here. I'm not trying to be the naughty language police here, but it's my experience that when people start using profanity, the discussion is probably about to devolve. That's not what we want here.

5. Personal attacks on USC coaches and players are not allowed. You are free to criticize their performance, but don't let criticism bleed into malicious attacks.
