Three Point Preview
1. Although the Gamecocks trail the all-time series 33-27, they have won the last five games. (I feel like I've heard that somewhere before, but I can't put my finger on it right now. Maybe it will come to me later.) The average margin of victory for those five games has been 27; over the past three games, it's been 34.6, including a 58-point win last year at CLA. By the way, Dawn Staley will be facing a fellow Virginia grad for the second straight game, but she should be very familiar with this name: Audra Smith. The duo led the Cavs to three straight Women's Final Fours, losing in the 1991 national championship game.
2. The Tigers have split a pair of games to start the season, starting with a win over Charleston Southern before a loss to Coastal Carolina, and are in the third of three home games to open the 2015-16 campaign. Danielle Edwards has averaged a double-double in her first two games (12 points, 12 rebounds) to lead Clemson in the early going. Clemson's lost much of their scoring from last year, with Nelly Perry (6.7 ppg in 2014-15) the top returnee.
3. A'ja Wilson's been red hot to start the season for the Gamecocks. The sophomore was named the SEC Player of the Week after averaging 19.5 points, registering 12.0 rebounds and blocking eight shots in her first two games. That's in 19 minutes per game, so we expect to see her on the court a lot more as the season progresses - maybe tonight.
