Yes, last week was Week 7. I was behind the BlogPoll's official counter, so this week was as good as any to catch up. Not a lot of red this week, but that red that does appear crops up in at least one depressing place.

1. Ohio State

2. LSU

I seriously pondered whether to jump LSU over Ohio State this week, and narrowly decided not to. The main reason was that being undefeated this late in the season counts for something, even if it's not a very impressive undefeated. On the merits, LSU is better; but Ohio State still has "0" on the second half of its W-L record. When that changes, LSU could end up in first.

3. Oklahoma See last week's new rule: Just win, baby. But 17-7? Against Iowa State?

4. Boston College

5. Arizona State

These teams are both undefeated against unimpressive slates. Both will eventually win their places this high or move down. Until that happens, they stay here. Especially since both were idle this weekend.

6. Florida From what I saw of this game -- and that was a good chunk of it -- Florida seemed to be in control most of the time once they took the lead. Against the team that beat LSU, mind you.

7. South Florida The loss was a close one to Rutgers, so the fall is softer than it otherwise might have been. But it's hard to see them getting back into the Top 3 seeing as how they are, after all, in the Big East.

8. Oregon Drilled Washington, 55-34, to add yet another impressive win to a team that is clearly on the rise. With Cal slumping and Southern Cal not really Southern Cal, it could be Oregon vs. Arizona State for the Pac-10. That game is Nov. 3.

9. Kansas Before you scoff at the 19-14 win over Colorado, remember that Oklahoma couldn't do that. And remember that Mark Mangino could crush you just by sitting on you.

You, up there. You wanna question my team?

10. Kentucky Florida's a good team. Losing to them is no black mark. Plus, their only other loss comes to South Carolina...okay, so strike that. But they did beat LSU.

11. Missouri Nicely rebound after the loss to Oklahoma. But can they keep from getting Pinkeled for the rest of the year?

12. Southern Cal Waxing Notre Dame does nothing for your record, even if the grass was taller than Yao Ming. But pretty much everybody between No. 7 and No. 16 last week who won this week moved up a space because of a loss that I choose not to talk about yet.

13. Virginia Tech The only team that could give BC a run for the ACC. Unless, of course, you really think Virginia is that good.

14. West Virginia Pounded a Mississippi State team that's better than a lot of people might recognize. Could we have counted them out too soon?

15. Auburn A de facto drop of one because they don't move up. It was a respectable loss to LSU in Baton Rouge at night on the last play of the game from scrimmage. That's worth something.

16. South Carolina So, yeah, they lost. And they fall. And that's all we'll say about that.

17. California Second straight loss, this one to UCLA. A season that once looked so promising now looks like it's about to spin out of control.

18. Texas Longhorns beat Baylor. Film at 11.

19. Michigan Appalachian Who? The Wolverines take care of the Illini and continue to prove that, this year, anyone can win anything.

20. Rutgers An impressive win puts the Scarlet Knights back in the Top 25.

21. Alabama Play like that every week, and your presence will be felt in the SEC West.

22. Georgia Idle. Move up one because of the chaos.

23. Penn State Make it back onto the board after taking care of Indiana.

24. Virginia A win is a win is a win. Plus, who else is there?

25. Connecticut Speaking of process of elimination... In any case, the Huskies move onto the ballot after winning one of the strangest games -- and poorly officiated games -- I've ever seen.

Which seems to fit the season.
