Bruce Ellington Commits to Coach Horn and Gamecocks

2

I'll have more on this sometime next week after the excitement of the UGA game dies down, but suffice it to say that this is a huge pickup. Ellington is considered one of the best point guards in the country and was getting attention from multiple marquee programs. He'll be ready to step into Devan Downey's shoes and lead us for the next few years. This is turning into one of the best hoops classes we've had in some time. Darrin Horn never ceases to amaze me; the excitement he has brought to this program is tangible. We're going to do big things over the next few years.

SEC Awards Announced

+

Several Gamecocks were honored. Devan Downey was on the first team All SEC (first five), while Zam Frederick and Dominique Archie were on the second team. Brandis Raley-Ross won the Sixth Man Award. Downey and Archie were on the All-Defensive Team. For those wondering, LSU's Marcus Thornton won POY over Downey, Jodie Meeks, and Nick Calathes, while LSU's Trent Johnson won COY. Apparently the people that decide on these awards really love LSU. I sure didn't see that award going to Thornton. I would have gone with Downey or Meeks. As far as Johnson vs. Darrin Horn goes, I can see the rationale behind picking Johnson. He's done a great job. He may have had an easier path than Horn--there was already some very solid talent in Baton Rouge--but you still can't discount the turnaround he's effected. LSU will be a power in the SEC for years to come.

Bama Beats Vols; Cocks Share Eastern Division Title

+

The Tide took out the Vols in Knoxville on a last-second desperation three by Anthony Brock. That means that we share the Eastern Division Title with the Vols. That's quite a feat for a team with a first-year coach that was expected to finish fifth in the Division! Whatever happens from here on out, I say give Darrin Horn a raise. This season can only be considered a success at this point.

Tom Leach interview with Darrin Horn.

Horn says he would like to be "Kentucky-like" at South Carolina. Nice interview. I think Horn was a terrific hire for the Gamecocks.

Sometimes notoriety is just a 'shot' away -- just ask Horn

An interesting article by Gary Parrish, who basically discusses what can best be described as the "Butterfly Effect" as it applies to college basketball.
