Middle of the Order // March 4: Call to Arms

In one of the footnotes to Sunday's victory over the Tiggers of the Upstate, Ray Tanner is now a member of the 900-win club.

One could point out that Clemson did help Carolina out quite a bit with the seven unearned runs. Actually, Kyle Parker was a big part of that. (Runner-up for early season MVP, behind only Reese Havens?)

But here's the flipside of that: the Gamecocks gave up two runs, continuing a pretty solid season for the pitchers.

The Gamecock Pitching Staff owns a team ERA of 3.38 after 56 innings pitched with opponents only batting .264 against the Gamecocks.

No, the rotation questions haven't been answered, but the year so far is cause for a bit of relief. (No pun intended.) The rotation isn't the Hindenberg. Time to find out if the journey will be a completely smooth one.

That said, one of the weak links starts Tuesday's game against Gardner-Webb. Craig Thomas, he of the 9.00 ERA, is on the mound for the Gamecocks. He's up against Josh Drewery, 1-0 with a 1.50 ERA. that game is at 7 p.m.

Nick Godwin (1-0, 0.00) will pitch against Charlotte at 4 p.m. Wednesday, with their starter TBA.

This weekend, it's Duquesne at 7 p.m. Friday, 4 p.m. Saturday and 1 p.m. Sunday.
