The Texas A&M Aggies (47-20, 19-8 Big 12) will start junior RHP Ross Stripling (14-2, 2.29 ERA) against the 2010 College World Series Champion South Carolina Gamecocks (50-14, 22-8 SEC) when the two teams square off on Sunday night at 7:00 p.m. EST on ESPN2. This will be the first game of the 2011 College World Series for both teams. Stripling, a ninth round draft pick of the Colorado Rockies, has struck out 107 batters in 117.2 innings pitched, while walking only 17. He throws a 90 mph fastball, and boasts two good off speed pitches in his curveball and changeup. The 6'3" hurler impressively accrued four complete games this season, including a four-hit shutout against the Texas Longhorns that helped clinch the Aggies a share of the 2011 Big 12 regular season title. Stripling was selected to Collegiate Baseball's Third Team All-America roster and is a First Team All-Big 12 member. Additionally, like his rival on the mound tomorrow night, Gamecocks LHP Michael Roth (13-3, 1.02 ERA), Stripling excels academically. He is a Third Team Capital One Academic All-American and was named to the First Team Academic All-Big 12 team.
