The SEC announced on Sunday that the South Carolina Gamecocks and Florida Gators will face off at 7pm on ESPN2 on Saturday night. CBS held the option to select either the Gamecocks and Gators or Auburn and Georgia, and went with Auburn surely in part based on Florida's embarrassing 34-17 loss against Vanderbilt on Saturday afternoon. Meanwhile, Auburn was busy pasting the Tennessee Volunteers in Knoxville by 32 points despite throwing less than ten passes for the second week in a row.
The scheduling means that USC will know whether they've been eliminated for a chance to play for the SEC East around the time they take the field on Saturday evening, as a Georgia win would eliminate any hopes the Gamecocks have of winning the SEC East this season (due to the way the tiebreakers shake out). If Auburn wins, South Carolina will need to hope that MIssouri drops one of its final two conference games, which are at Ole Miss and home versus Texas A&M.
The sportsbooks installed South Carolina as a two touchdown favorite in the game against the Gators. Auburn is a 3.5 point favorite to beat Georgia and keep the Gamecocks' hopes of a trip to Atlanta on December 7th alive.
