The Wounded
Connor Shaw
On Monday, Shaw practiced without a knee brace for the first time since spraining his right MCL and LCL on Oct. 19 against Tennessee. Though Shaw was able to play against Missouri and Mississippi State in subsequent weeks, he was held to the lowest rushing totals of his career (-8 and -14 yards, respectively), so the hope is that the bye week gave Shaw even more time to heal and return to being the potent running threat that he was during the first half of the year.
Mike Davis
While hauling in a 30-yard pass against Mississippi State, Mike Davis injured his shoulder but was able to return to the game. The next day, Steve Spurrier offered the following appraisal of Davis' injury:
I think Mike Davis had a bruised shoulder or sumpin' likaat. I think when he caught that pass down the sideline he landed on his shoulder a little bit and jammed it somewhat. I don't think it's anything too serious.
The SEC's leading-rusher practiced this week with no limitations whatsoever and will be ready to play against Florida.
Brison Williams
The Gamecocks' starting strong safety wore a boot this week to protect the ankle that he sprained at practice on Tuesday. Brison was able to return to practice on Thursday, after which defensive coordinator Lorenzo Ward estimated Wiliams' health to be at about 70 percent and said, "If he's ready play, he will start."
If he's not ready, Kadetrix Marcus will start in Williams' place.
Brandon Wilds
Wilds said after practice that he would wear a brace on his left elbow as a precaution but that he is "100 percent." Prior to his injury, Wilds was averaging 6 carries per game and had rushed for 140 yards and 1 touchdown.
Wilds' availability should lighten the load on Mike Davis, who leads the SEC in rushing yards but, in the course of achieving that distinction, has taken a number of hits that have left Gamecock fans holding their breath. Having Wilds back increases the odds that Mike will be able to stay healthy and ensures that the Gamecocks have a capable backup if he can't. In Wilds' absence, Shon Carson played decently, but rarely ran for more yards than what the offensive line had blocked.
Cody Waldrop
"My plan is to play [Cody]," offensive line coach Shawn Elliott said after Tuesday's practice. "I don't know if he'll start right now."
Save for a few errant snaps, Clayton Stadnik has played well in Cody Waldrop's absence, so it comes as a bit of a surprise that Waldrop could supplant Stadnik despite not having played in a game since September.
"[Cody] looks good, physically," Elliott said. "He's just getting back into rhythm. If Cody gets his snaps back and his timing back, I think he's got a little bit more strength than Clay does right now."
