Elliott Fry accounted for 13 of South Carolina's 19 points in the Gamecocks' five-point victory over the Florida Gators on Saturday, connecting on field goal attempts from 22, 25, 43, and 45 yards out and was named SEC Freshman of the Week for his efforts. Fry's 22-yarder came with 6:03 remaining in the fourth quarter and gave South Carolina its first lead of the game since opening scoring with a field goal drive on its first possession.
Fry added another field goal from 45 yards out to push the Gamecocks' lead to 19-14, putting the Gators in a situation where they needed a touchdown drive rather than just a field goal to win the game, a much more daunting task for Florida's incredibly pass-averse offense.
The SEC awarded the Gamecocks' true freshman kicker with Special Teams Player of the Week Honors following his two-field-goal performance in South Carolina's 27-24 win over Missouri. Even though Fry missed a 40-yard field goal in the first quarter, his 40-yard kick in double overtime proved to be the winning points. Fry also missed a field goal against Florida, pushing attempt from 38 yards wide right.
