It's the first weekly conference accolade of Hampton's career.

On the heels of an impressive performance against the Mississippi State Bulldogs, junior cornerback Victor "The Bandit" Hampton has earned the SEC's Defensive Player of the Week award. Against the Bulldogs, Hampton registered 8 tackles (6 solo), 3 pass breakups, and one delightful rip-the-ball-out-of-a-dude's-hands forced fumble/recovery combo:

Hampton, who faced some criticism earlier in the season for his tendency to freelance in coverage, arguably played the best game of his career on Saturday. A fourth-year junior, most expect Hampton to declare for the NFL Draft at the end of the season. Hampton is the fourth Gamecock to receive SEC honors in the past 8 days. Last week, Connor Shaw, Kelcy Quarles and Elliott Fry earned the Offensive, Defensive Line, and Special Teams Player of the Week awards, respectively.

The honor is Hampton's second most notable accomplishment this season, falling just behind this shirt:
