Drew Owens
Redshirt Sophomore Tight End
6'6", 241 lbs.
Charlotte, NC
Recruitment:
3 stars, 28th overall tightd end in 2011 class
Other offers: North Carolina, Arkansas, Clemson, N.C. State, Virginia Tech
College Career:
Owens redshirted in 2011 and missed all of 2012 after tearing a knee ligament during a touchdown reception in the 2012 spring game.
2012 Stats:
Did not play
2013 Outlook:
Barring injury to either Busta Anderson or Jerell Adams, Owens shouldn't see a whole lot of non-garbage playing time in 2013. But, when he does get on the field, Owens has shown flashes of being the kind of big-bodied receiving threat that has thrived in in the Garnet and Black since Steve Spurrier came to Columbia.
And, as I've pointed out ad nauseam over the past few months, it's very possible that Owens will be the only the Gamecocks' only scholarship tight end returning to the 2014 squad, so any in-game experience that he's able to get in 2013 could prove quite valuable going forward.
Trivia:
Sheds his exoskeleton once every two weeks.
Social media scouting report:
Drew seems primed to replace Devin Taylor in the role of highly intelligent, off-beat guy who is really into his Jeep and guns and stuff. He doesn't wear a thong though.
Possible Todd Ellis play-by-play call:
Dylan Thompson under center, takes the snap, drops back and HITS DREW OWENS ON THE SEAM ROUTE FOR A TOUCHDOWN. And the Head Ball Coach DREW UP a touchdown for DREW OWENS.
