The Final Cockdown: #19 Kyle Fleetwood

After being moved to SPUR, Kyle Fleetwood has a long road ahead to meaningful playing time in his redshirt freshman season.

USA TODAY Sports

Kyle Fleetwood
Redshirt Freshman Spur
5'11", 216 lbs.
Stone Mountain, GA

Recruitment:
3 stars, #37 safety in the 2012 class
Other offers: Boston College, Cincinnati, Indiana, and Louisville. Fleetwood had an offer list that seemed to defy geography, and the Stephenson grad ended his recruitment early by committing to the Gamecocks in June of 2011.

College Career:
Fleetwood redshirted in 2012 while practicing at strong safety.

2013 Outlook:
Toward the beginning of fall practice, Fleetwood was moved over to spur from strong safety, where one would estimate that the best case scenario is that he is currently third in line for snaps at the hybrid linebacker/safety position. In the near term, expect to see Fleetwood on the field for special teams and during garbage time against out-of-conference opponents unless injuries in the secondary start to mount.

Trivia:
Have you noticed some Gamecock football players adding the hashtag #FleetTweet to their 140 character missives on Twitter? Well, that's because they're lightheartedly mocking their teammate's signature emo Twitter style.

Possible Todd Ellis play-by-play call:
"Third down from the Georgia 38. Midfield is the line to gain. Murray receives the shotgun snap, looks down field, doesn't see anything open and BOOM! Murray gets sacked by the blitzing safety, Kyle Fleetwood, who says, "Aaron Murray, you can go your own way. You can call it another lonely day."
