The University of South Carolina athletic department has dispatched a press release stating that senior Connor Shaw has been named to the Manning Award Watch list. Shaw enters the 2013 season as one of the winningest quarterbacks in South Carolina history with an overall record of 17-3, is ranked 9th in career completions (300), 7th in touchdowns (32), holds the record for consecutive completions (20), is the Gamecock all-time completion rate leader (66.8%), and is one of only two Gamecocks to amass 3000 yards passing and 1000 yards on the ground. During his career he has been named the SEC Player of the Week twice.
While he's not known as a premier downfield passer, Shaw has made a name for himself by displaying grit and poise in tough situations and has proven that he is a five-star caliber field general. However, his ESPN Total QB Rating (which the list is based from) was good enough to get him on the 30 member Watch List which features five other SEC quarterbacks. A voting panel will release a 10-member finalist roster on November 28 and then present the The Manning Award on January 8th.
