Final Cockdown: #24 Kendric Salley

Kendric Salley looks to compete for playing time in a deep backfield.

USA TODAY Sports

Kendric Salley
Redshirt Freshman Running Back
5'10", 210 lbs.
Williston, SC

Recruitment:
3 stars, #40 RB in the 2012 class
Other offers: No other major offers listed

College Career:
Kendric suffered a partially torn ACL towards the end of his senior season of high school, and spent his redshirt freshman year rehabbing.

2012 Stats:
N/A

2013 Outlook:
Did you know that South Carolina lists 12 backs? TWELVE! But four of those are fullbacks, two are true freshmen heading for redshirts, and two are walkons unlikely to affect the depth chart. This leaves us with the four backs the casual fan could probably could have named already: Mike Davis, Brandon Wilds, Shon Carson, and Kendric Salley. And if your official bio sees fit to mention that you have "the biggest learning curve of the returning backs," one must assume it'll be an uphill battle for Kendric to make much of an impact this season. But hey, he can glance up that depth chart and spot practical motivation in Brandon Wilds, a guy who was underheralded before circumstances led to his getting and making the most of an opportunity. But let's hope it doesn't come to that. Ideally, Kendric will continue to develop and learn the system via mop-up touches and practice reps.

Possible Todd Ellis play-by-play call:
"Gamecocks in shotgun, and that's Kendric Salley in the backfield with Connor. Ball is snapped, and Salley will get the give—he slices through traffic, makes a cut, and he's into the next level! Salley turns on the jets, and he will FIND PAYDIRT! TOUCHDOWN GAMECOCKS! Ladies and gentlemen, with Wilds and Davis up front we forget about 24, but let this serve as a reminder for us all that Kendric Salley is a good kid in a m.a.a.d. city!"
