The Graveyard Shift

Gamecock women move up a spot to No. 17, remain undefeated. Men's soccer loses two up north, falls to 2-4-0.

Though the South Carolina men's soccer team has a losing record at 2-4-0, three of the four losses have come to teams currently ranked seventh (St. John's), thirteenth (Clemson), and, in the case of Coastal Carolina, first in receiving votes in the NSCAA Men's Top 25. This weekend, the men host the Gamecock Classic, where they will square off against South Florida (Friday at 7:00 p.m.) and Dartmouth (Sunday at 1:30 p.m.). Through the first six games, J.P. Rafferty (M/D, Sr.) leads the Gamecocks with two goals.

On the women's side, it's a much different tale thus far. The Lady Gamecocks are undefeated at 7-0-1 and currently ranked No. 17 in the NSCAA Women's Top 25. The women have allowed just one goal this season, conceding a score on the road at Clemson. Danielle Au (F/M, Sr.) and Raina Johnson (M/F, So.) have each netted three goals. Freshman Daija Griffin (F) has already scored twice in her inaugural campaign in a South Carolina uniform. The team travels to Athens, GA to face the Bulldogs on Friday night in the opening SEC matchup.
