This is my initial SEC Power Poll ballot. Disagree with any of my rankings? Tell me why in the comments section.
The Tide's offense wasn't quite what we were expecting against VA Tech, but special teams play contributed to a familiarly lopsided result in favor of the defending national champs.
The Gamecocks didn't look perfect against UNC, but the game was never in doubt even though USC sat some key players out with minor injuries and Jadeveon Clowney suffered with a stomach illness.
3. LSU Tigers
In perhaps the best showing of the weekend, LSU won convincingly over what's projected to be a very good TCU team.
Despite sitting several players out with suspensions, Florida dominated what was thought to be an upset-minded Toledo team. Solid opener for the Gators, even if the offense still has question marks.
5. Texas A&M Aggies
The offense appears to be what it was cracked up to be, but the Aggies' defensive depth didn't inspire confidence against lowly Rice.
After a sloppy, lackluster performance against Clemson, UGA's season is on the line this weekend when South Carolina visits Athens.
7. Ole Miss Rebels
The defense showed some holes in the win over Vandy, but it should get better as the talented underclassmen get experience under their belts. Good opening road win for what could be this year's surprise team.
I should note here that there's little apparent separation between the next several teams yet. All have potential, but all have question marks, too.
Not really much to go on yet, but at least the Butch Jones era got off to a winning start against lowly Austin Peay.
All isn't lost for the Commodores, but for a team that likely has little room for error if it wants to get back to eight or nine wins, the close loss to Ole Miss hurts.
10. Missouri Tigers
Believe it or not, Murray St. led the Tigers after a quarter, but the Tigers unloaded in the final three quarters to win big. The running game looked great with Henry Josey back from injury.
Like Tenn. and Mizzou, I don't have a good feel for this team yet after it played Louisiana-Lafayette over the weekend, other than that they unleashed the Bret Bielema rushing attack in style with almost 200 yards on the ground.
They could certainly put together another seven- or eight-win season, but Saturday's thrashing at the hands of Oklahoma St. inspires little confidence that this is a team that's going to be able to compete with the big boys.
13. Auburn Tigers
The offense will probably be solidly better than last year, but the defense continues to look like a huge liability.
Mark Stoops may eventually raise the level of play in Lexington, but Saturday, 'Cats fans were probably wishing they had hired Bobby Petrino.
