Wesley Green and Arden Key decommit from South Carolina, according to reports

The Gamecocks got some bad news on the recruiting trail Sunday evening as rumors of a pair of decommitments began to surface.

South Carolina appears to have lost a pair of four star commitments for its 2014 and 2015 classes in cornerback Wesley Green and defensive end Arden Key. Green and Key both committed to the Gamecocks over the summer and are teammates at Martin Luther King, Jr. High in Lithonia, GA.

Details about why the duo decided revoke their pledge to the Gamecocks remain scarce.

Key's decommitment is less of an immediate concern, as Signing Day 2015 is still a year and a half away, but South Carolina thought it had its needs at cornerback filled and, consequently, relaxed their pursuit of a number of talented defensive backs with interest in the Gamecocks.

If South Carolina is unable to get Green back on board, expect them to make a run at four star cornerback D.J. Smith of Marieta, GA. Smith is believed to be a Clemson lean at the moment, but the Gamecocks' inability to take another defensive back due to tight numbers is a big reason why. It will be interesting to see if the Gamecocks still have enough of a foot in the door with Smith to have a real chance at landing him.
