The SEC honored Carolina freshman guard Sindarius Thornwell with the SEC Freshman of the Week award on Monday.  Thornwell scored 35 points for the Gamecocks in their two SEC contests last week, a 74-58 loss in Gainesville to Florida and a 71-68 setback at home to LSU.

Thornwell also added nine rebounds and three assists in his 31 minutes per game for the Gamecocks.  It marks the first time a Gamecock has been recognized as player of the week - freshman or otherwise - in Frank Martin's tenure as head coach of the Gamecocks.

South Carolina takes to the floor again on Wednesday evening in College Station against Texas A&M.  Though they struggled at times in non-conference action, the Aggies opened SEC play with a 2-0 record thanks to a home win over Arkansas and a last-second victory over Tennessee in Knoxville on Saturday.  The game tips off at 8pm ET.
